Movie Concessions

Went to see "Freaky Friday" with Busy Girl. We had so much fun!

Now, I realize that it's no secret that food prices are ridiculous at movies. You either pay it or you don't. But, do they have to be so cheery about it?

This guy was so fired up that there was a "combo" (2 drinks and popcorn) for only $10.25. Yes, this young man really acted as though he was giving me a great deal.

The cost is what it is, but the attitude oughta be like the Soup Nazi or something: (in best New York/grouchy accent) "You want popcorn? I'll give you popcorn, but you're gonna have to pay and pay big."

That way you think, "OK, it cost me, but at least I got some popcorn for it." and you come out feeling lucky, not robbed.

The prices for food at the movies EVERYWHERE are ridiculous. I call it robbery and exploitation. There is simply no other way to rationalise it. I say let them keep their damn food, may it rot on them!

That's where they make their money, the concession stands. When you buy that slightly larger drink, the extra cost to them is only a couple of cents, so the .25 larger size is pure profit....

I took my 10 yr old daughter to see FF and we had a blast!

Afterward, we went to Blockbuster and got the original with Jody Foster as I had to show her the one I grew up on.

She liked it too!

Girls rule!

I used to manage in a movie theatre (admittedly when I was in college), and Dean is exactly right.

What the theatre has to pay the exhibitors to show the movies is not much less than what it will actually make back from the film at the box office. It's not like they give them the films for free and the theatres keep the receipts....

So for the privilege of actually getting to see a movie where it's supposed to be seen - in a theatre - you have to pay high prices for the concessions.

If anything, get mad at the exhibitors - they're the ones causing theatre to jack up ticket prices in the $10+ range.

I run a movie theater and have the lowest prices anywhere!! $1.00 + $2.00 Soda and $2-4.50 popcorns. Candy is only $1.00 and $1.75......I'm struggling to stay afloat. The rental on the films is a killer but I don't want to rip off my customers with $6.00 large popcorns. I've raised prices a little but they are still really low.
