Back to the old grind
For all you inquiring minds, I don't really know about Baton Bob other than, wait, this just in, he's famous. Who knew? As for the lawnchair brigade, it is a group of neighborhood people who march in formations while opening and closing lawn chairs in unison, drill team style. It was a hoot. Yes, I said "hoot", ya adolescents.
As much fun as we had, it's good to be home. Even though we stayed with good friends, I hate staying in other people's houses. (Unless it's yours, really you are the exception). If I am out of town, give me a hotel any day. Now, I realize it wouldn't have made sense to travel all that way and not stay there with them, but I just have a hard time relaxing while navigating someone else's home and children. I don't like hauling my shower items to and from a shared bathroom, I hate wondering if I should get up in the morning because the hosts are already up, and it's awkward to stand in someone else's kitchen and stare into their fridge as I am prone to doing. They think you actually want something to eat.
Back to work today. I wish I had a video camera for this last charcter we had in here. I think I may have written about him last year, but he's 67 (looks younger), has this 25 year old wife who sat in his lap the whole time last year, he claims to be an Indian medicine man, made 5 sex jokes in less than 8 minutes, spoke of trying to get to Washington to the patent office but couldn't because of his health and has a broken toe where he kicked a wall in anger.
Today's the day I'm going to start to eat right. I've been at it 4 hours now and I'm going strong. Well, then there's lunch. We'll see.

I AM SO WITH YOU! I will literally travel for HOURS just to sleep in my own home. mind you I don't mind having people stay here. it's odd.
Posted by: Another Pam at July 6, 2004 12:04 PMI'm with you about the hotel thing. Much prefer it. Actually, funny you should mention it because I just posted a horror story about staying in someone else's home.
Posted by: Sheryl at July 6, 2004 12:16 PMMaybe I should save it for my own blog, but I seem to have problems with Other People's Bathrooms. Don't know why, but I must have a curse or something.
I much prefer my house, too.
Posted by: ben at July 6, 2004 01:32 PMKeep up the good eating. Weight in is on Thursday!!
Hon you can come to my house any day of the week. There's no navigation and a totally kid zone. Just screaming for kids to run through it like mad. There's no pretty stuff hanging around for little hands. It's simple but no navigation needed!! (has to do with the 5 million kids that come over during the week!!!)
PS Bathroom is spotless!!
Posted by: Hula Doula at July 6, 2004 02:12 PMI hate staying with people as well. It's just so freaking tense.lol
Posted by: emily at July 6, 2004 04:06 PMDoes this mean you're off Diet Coke?
I like my own space too, I know exactly what you mean.
Posted by: Chelle at July 6, 2004 04:36 PMI hate sleeping in other peoples houses....theres just something about it. I would rather be in my own home.
Posted by: Adria at July 6, 2004 04:48 PMI thought I was special because I'd rather spend good money on cheap hotels instead of take up offers to stay in people's homes.
Thanks for the therapy! You should bill me, then use the money for a hotel the next time you're tempted.
Isn't it nice to be home, even if the lawn needs mowing?
Everything is exactly where you left it. Yeah, right. Not likely!
Posted by: jill at July 6, 2004 05:08 PMJust found your blog. I enjoyed reading!
I guess I am the only one that doesn't mind sleeping in other's houses. They just have to have a big bed when my husband is with me. Doubles are too small for our wide butts.
Posted by: Goldberry at July 6, 2004 08:06 PMI love this: "... I've been at it 4 hours now and I'm going strong. Well, then there's lunch." That is SO how I am. A solid start, a real commitment but then...
Posted by: Marcia at July 6, 2004 09:43 PMI much prefer the hotel to people's homes - especially with my kids. I just don't get the people who get insulted because someone would rather stay in a hotel than in their house. It's not anything personal, at least most of the time :), and shouldn't carry any negative connotations.
Referring to the fellow at work, is it bad professional form to laugh?
Posted by: AnneWhitney at July 6, 2004 09:47 PMIf that guy makes alot of sex Jokes then maybe he's not happy with his young wife or that was his daughter sitting in his lap, or he's probably not getting any, like me, but I can wait, I think.
Posted by: Rockchild at July 7, 2004 03:39 AMI much prefer a hotel that way I can knock around all that I want and sleep etc. My kids think it's a treat as well.
Hope you have a successful lunch!!
Posted by: kb at July 7, 2004 07:46 AMI was at my boyfriend's mother's home for the long weekend and agree with you 100% about staying at other people's homes-especially their bathrooms and kitchens:-O And his mother is the Martha Stewart-type regarding her home:-O In comparison it is almost relaxing being back at work even though I have a new hire to train!
Posted by: Lorel at July 7, 2004 08:30 AMI LOVE Baton Bob! How great is that guy? Ambassador of Joy and Mirth???!!! EVERY town needs one of those! What a way to get out of depression. He could give lessons.
Posted by: Keri at July 7, 2004 10:29 AMI love to dig around in other peoples fridge! They have better food that I do usually...or so it seems at the time, but yeah, I hate sleeping at their house. It just feels weird.
