This morning, the kids and I were listening to a CD that has the Partridge Family theme song on it. I LOVED that show. I couldn't remember if the kids had seen it before, so I asked them.
Me: "I used to love this show! Have you seen it before?"
Busy Girl: "No, what's it about?"
Me: "Oh, it was great! A mother and her kids have a singing group and they travel around in a colorful school bus!" (Egads, I think, when you say it out loud, it sounds absurd)
Busy Boy: "They lived in a school bus?"
Me: "No, they lived in their house, they went to their singing gigs in the bus."
Busy Girl: "Well, what else did they do?"
Me: (trying to think how to explain that hilarity ensued each week on Friday evenings) "Just, just...funny things happened to them."
Busy Girl: "Like what?"
Me: (stammers) "I don't know just funny stuff."
Busy Boy: "Did their house explode?" (wtf?)
Me: "Um, no."
Busy Boy: "Did one of them have super powers?"
Me: "Well, no."
Busy Girl: "Why was it funny, then?"
Me: "It just was."

I watched it religiously and I'm trying to remember some of that hilarity that ensued now, too. What DID happen on that show?
Oh great. You mention the Partridge Family and now instantly I've got an "I Think I Love You" earworm. Thanks a bunch Busy Mom. You're a doll. Mwaah!
kids today ~ OK, so I'm older than you, try explaining Mr. Ed.
"What is so funny about a talking horse mom?"
P.S. ~ Thanks to "TV land" channel (and all those summer days spent at grandmas watching TV with grandpa) - she now gets it.
Oh and we are supposed to think a talking sponge with square pants is funny? *sigh* =) Give me the Partridge Family over that any day *grin*
Yeah, I agree with Lauren...a talking sponge is funny??? Kids just don't get it.
To quote Saavik in Star Trek II, "Humor, it is a difficult concept."
See, "The Partridge Family" was never really funny at all, it just had that annoying 1907s laughtrack designed to trick us into thinking it must be outrageously hilarious.
But it sold a lot of records.
Danny. Bonaducci. A comic genius. Or an annoying kid with red hair. Hmmm.
Ooh! I know this one Jenny! That second part... Annoying. And totally ruined me for red heads for years. It still takes me time to warm up to them. No offense to all you reds out there. Blame it on Danny.
And Reuben? I kept wishing he'd go away, too.
I loved that show. *sigh*
Have you seen the new show on VH1 where they are auditioning for new Partridge Family members? It's a train wreck.
house explode???
keep the matches away from that one....
:)
Funniest line I read all day:
"Busy Boy: "Did their house explode?" (wtf?)"
I'm giggling again reading it. Hehe.
Danny B. was always getting in Mr. Kenkade's way; and always trying to make some kind of money. The older two kids (I can't believe I forgot their names) were into the teenage akwardness, and the two little ones were in the background enough to add a little humor as well.
I always disliked Reuben because he tried to ruin all the fun. I actually thought that he was named after the sandwich!
You know that they're re-making the Partridge Family for network TV now, don't you?
As if Brady reunion shows weren't horrible enough.
