I'm still here!

Hi, there. I'm still here. My mom was discharged from the hospital to the SNF last evening. It's not the fancy one I showed you, but it's a nice little place near MMC, I can walk to it in about 15 minutes. So far, so good I guess, she had a good night, but was bitching this morning because breakfast was late. Everyone is very nice, she has a roommate that, well, is better off during the light of day than she is at night. She even got a visitor this morning, you can kinda see (not the greatest photo) in the Moblog on the right. Sadie, the puppy came by. My mom looks kind of funny, since she's talking to the social worker as well as the puppy.

But, folks, let's face it. This is a nursing home. Her room is near the nursing station and she arrived last evening and we were a sort of curiosity for the other residents. They were inching closer and closer to her room and, yes, I know this is warped, but I couldn't help but think of the toys in Sid's room in the movie Toy Story as they all rolled up to get look at what was going on. I am so going to hell, aren't I?

Anyway, she's still on oxygen, but seems to be feeling better. My father is a bit freaked out, but he'll be fine. She'll be there for at least 7 days when Blue Cross will either kick her out or give her some more days. We'll see.

So is she just staying there until she recovers from her illness and then she gets to go home again?

I'm giving you a big cyber hug 'cause you've been thru a lot the last week.{{{HUG}}

I'm glad to hear that your mom is finally out of the hospital, it has to be a good sign. I hope that the rest of the Busy Family is doing well, and coping with this latest crisis as well as can be expected. And, finally, I hope you are taking care of yourself......I know how draining it can be to be the caretaker.

I've seen that phenomenon!

I used to deliver flowers (in a past life) and any new visitor caused a wave of Creeping Old People. Usually you could outrun them, but they can be quite crafty.

HAHAHAHAHA!!! I cracked up at the comparison to Sid's room. Too hilarious. Your mom looks great in the pic, the puppy is adorable, AND she's doing a crossword puzzle. She's my kinda woman. ;)

Whew! Good news (relatively) from Busy World. I think we were all getting a bit worried when you didn't post for a few days.

Loved the Sid's room comparison - that is what they're like. Have to admit though, it was Ben's comment above that had me laughing out loud and dodging the suspicious looks of my coworkers!

Wow...you not writing for a couple of days had me worried! Glad she's doing well; my mother-in law had the same thing; in the nursing home for about 2 months right before the holidays...not totally fun, but better than some of the alternatives. Its boring, food's bad, its noisy, etc. And, there are OLD people there! Really OLD! Your mom will actually come to feel quite young in comparison...thats a good thing! :)

Did you miss a GREAT opportunity to put on a show for the 'lurkers'?? You could have scratched or picked at something.

Then again, you don't want to become the talk of the hall.

Glad Busy Grandma's finally out of the hospital, and hoping the stay at SNF stays brief and she can go home. Also glad you're managing to keep your sense of humor through this. I was ROFL at the Toy Story analogy.

Glad to hear that busy grandma is doing better and out of the hospital. And I would so send you a bottle of some type of liquor since you have been through so much this past month!

You are so NOT going to hell. You're finding a way to deal with the responsibilities of holding down a job while taking care of your mother, your children, your husband and your father. Laughter is theraputic. Without it you would simply collpase in despair. Life is mostly about attitude and I think yours is wonderful.

Well any nursing home with a puppy can't be too bad!

Glad she is starting to feel better. Maybe all those old folks in there will make her feel young and vigorous and she'll be out of there quick!

Ditto to what the other 'Paul' said above...GMTA
Take care :)

Been praying for you guys.

Nursing homes and senior centers crack me up - it is like Toy Story. 1/2 the people keep their doors open all day from boredom and swoop down on the "newbies". My dad was in an Assisted Living place and when you walked in the door you were attacked by terribly bored elders who wanted to know who who belonged to, where you were going and were you staying for lunch, it was gonna be good that day!

As long as she settles in...no doubt that won't be seamless, but still, it's progress.

Hang in there.

~it's been some time since I stopped in and read along, apologies extended...but I am glad to read things are good and hopefully getting better with your 'rents...I share you situation, my father recently took a turn for the worse and is slowly recovering himself...it has really hit me hard, the mortailty of my parents, and I am still a mess, but I remain the optimist...as I hope you are as well...al the best to both of your parents and to you as well!!~
