I don't see it either

I had an appointment today with the representative from the retirement fund company here at MMC. We were going over my contributions and current status of my account. She tapped a few numbers into her computer.

Me: "Don't forget, I'm married to a teacher, I'll be working the rest of my life and maybe after that. I will be the 90 year old lady in Sam's Club offering you cream puff samples.
Busy Financial Lady: "My mother does that."
Me: "And, I'm sure she is really good at it. I LOVE cream puffs. I would SO buy some from her every time I saw her."
Busy Financial Lady: "Last time we met, we talked about you retiring at age 65."
Me: "OK."
Busy Financial Lady: "I don't see that happening."

I'll be the guy they find dead at his desk.....clutching the last payment coupon of the mortgage while looking at the last check I wrote for college tuition.

Oh that just sucks. Yeah, I'm so not planning ahead.

I don't even want to think about it.

Ouch!

Next time try this: "So, if I don't make retirement plans, you're like...out of a job, right?"

Financial Lady: 2wo minutes for roughing!

ouch!!! That was just cold!

I used to know a guy who would take his wife (who had very bad vision) to the wholesale club on the weekends. He'd tell her they were going to Luby's.

That's so WRONG!

Hey! You have THREE kids to take care of you when you get older. Why are you saving now?! ;)

Yeah, well she's only retiring because she takes a cut out of her mother's paycheck from Sam's.

Sounds to me like she isn't the best person to be giving this sort of guidance if she couldn't even help her MOTHER, fercryinoutloud!

But what do I know? "Retirement" sounds like a band name to me: "Holly and the Retirements". Feel free to use it.

What's retirement?

Don't see it here either..I'll just plan on meeting you at Sams.....

I've been planning for my retirement for over 15 years. I'll probably get to retire by the time I'm 75 or so, but things will be tight.

I just ran the retirement calculator on our company's 401(k) website last week. It said I can retire at 65, but only if my husband keeps working until he's 74 and then dies, so I don't have his expenses anymore.

Of course, right now he's a SAHD, so hopefully he won't still be doing *that* job in 36 years.
