Throwing all my money at Sears

Seems the Great Appliance Failure of 2005 has made a resurgence. Not only do we need a new dishwasher (most likely, and it's 13 years old, anyway), they want $600 to fix the lawnmower AND the Busy Van is in the shop ostensibly to get an oil change and some recall work done. What do you want to bet they'll call and tell me that it needs two new flux capacitors or something?

This will seriously cut into my purse spending.

All I have to say is... Sears scratch-n-dent warehouse on Thompson Lane across from Sidco Drive down from 100 Oaks Mall!!! Have bought several items there. Most are items people decided they didn't want and since they were out of the box they were no longer considered 'New'.

We just replaced our dishwasher--and sadly, it has made me want a new fridge. And new cabinets! And a new oven! How 'bout a whole new kitchen! Or maybe a WHOLE NEW HOUSE! Or MAYBE . . .

Whew. Sorry--the fumes from the new dishwasher seem to be making me woozy.

Forget the mower. Buy some sheep.

$600 to FIX the lawnmower? Hell, you can buy a really good new one for that! LOL Anyway, sorry you are having serious mechanical failure in the Busy house.

Just don't let the auto place tell you they need to rotate the air in the tires. You only need to do that in the winter.

We got both our fridge and our range from the Sears Scratch and Dent Store and have been very pleased with both of them.

We actually just got a new dishwasher last week, because ours was 15 years old and we wanted to replace it before it flooded the house. I looked at the Scratch and Dent store, but they never seem to have that many dishwashers.

Home Depot and Lowes both have had a bunch on clearance recently though and last week I found one with everything I wanted for 50% off, because it was a floor model and had a scratch (that I had to get on the floor and shine a light on to see). I jumped on that.

Good luck finding a good one. You might also want to call the Habitat for Humanity Home Store. They sometimes carry brand new appliances for great prices along with the used stuff.

Hell, I watched "Extreme Makeover Home Edition" last night.

I want me a Ty. and a new house.

I took my hoop d'ville to the shop today for new rear shocks...2 phone calls later, and an increase of $225 for the 'estimate', it's all done...I'm telling you, BMW stands for Break My Wallet!!

I'll trade your new dishwasher need and your van woes for the transmission we just dropped in DH's truck a couple of weeks ago...the money tree isn't blooming enough in our backyard this year!

I can't believe they want to charge you $600 to FIX your mower!!! Don't do it. I yi yi yi yi!!

Those kinds of things always come in bunches. Good luck with the cost of the car. You'll need it after the cost of the Lawn Mower repairs!

I hope you have a REALLY good lawn mower to be putting down $600 to fix it! Sorry about all your expenses...I hate how repairs tend to cluster! Ugh!

What's that, a limited edition gold-plated mower? It's amazing what you can find on the curb. We don't buy mowers in our house. Hubby collects discarded pieces n parts & assembles things that cut grass. I don't ask anymore - I just mow.

I may not be a big purse shopper, but I LOVE appliance shopping. If you need any Consumer Reports research done (brand reliability, etc), lemme know. I'll look things up for you...

Alternately, check to see if the Sears/Home Depot/Lowe's is getting rid of their floor models. You might luck into a relly good deal.

Every time I take the van in for an oil change I tell them NOT to tell me about anything that is wrong/needs to replaced/is worn/will surely result in death. If I had the money for that other stuff I would ask them to check for it!!!

If my lawnmower costs $600 to fix it better mow the lawn by its own damn self and bring me an iced tea while I watch.

Now I'm paranoid about my dishwasher! I'm not sure I could live without my dishwasher!

Consumer Reports Choice:
Kenmore (Sears) 1603[2]
$520
We thought we were gonna shell out for one last week but, the repair was cheap so we are in a holding pattern again.
Good luck.

You must have an impressive mower! I would have *GAFAWED in their face and then broke out laughing. When they told me they were serious I would have asked if I was on candid camer!

camera! Makes better sense eh?!

Throwing money at Sears here too. Spending my money on a microwave since mine is on a moving van that is never going to get here. How do I cook for triplets without a microwave for two weeks?
