Woke up today ready to kill someone or something and it actually hasn't gotten much better, I'm not sure why. Just little things going on all day long. I had every intention of taking it out on the lady at Sam's when she told me my membership had expired on the first and she would be happy to add $35 onto my bill for my convenience. I had precisely $20 to give up for the wizard boy book and I was in no mood to seek out more, but I did anyway and she was really nice. She came thisclose to ruining my pissy mood, but generalized agititation and misdirected anger won out and I was on my way.
My mood might be related to the fact that The Preschooler Formerly Known as Busy Baby was up all night with a fever. I was thinking he might have strep until he blew chunks a couple of times and I realized he had a virus that's been going around his school. The good news is that he felt much better after hurling, but the bad news is that this episode took place at the City Swim Meet where Busy Boy spent his day doing quite well in his 6 events.
Actually, come to think of it my mood was probably made worse by the swim meet in general because, as I have said before, I am just NOT cut out for the generalized chaos that is a swim meet. I have way too many control issues to be a good swim team parent. I didn't grow up doing those individual sports like track or swimming and I want to jump out of my skin when the participants are all wandering around everywhere. I swear, I don't understand how any race gets lined up or completed at all! For example, there were 16 heats of boys under 8 freestyle. Someone, somewhere had to find, arrange and keep 128 eight year old boys in place long enough to put on a race and that was just 1 event. If it were up to me, I'd lock them all in a room and call them out when it was their turn to swim. So, there you have it, the reason I am not deeply involved in swim team. Busy Boy, however, had a great day and that's what matters. He got 7th in freestyle and breast stroke (this is out of more than 100 kids, mind you), 11th in butterfly and 11th in IM and his free relay and medley relay teams both placed first overall. He got to pick out where he wanted to go eat afterward and we got him his much coveted Crocs as a little reward and he is a happy camper. Maybe I need some Crocs, or a drink or something.

Hmmm... Let me see:
1) I too have control issues.
2) I too have the thoughts at various school and sports events. I go insane with the stress and I'm not even in charge of rounding up the 128 children.
3) I DO have the drink in hand (Mango Mamma Wine from Florida) and
4) We are also proud owners of CROCS. Pink with orange strap joined our household a couple weeks ago for the 9 year old.
Hmmm.. separated at birth perhaps?
Get the Crocs. Get the drink. DON'T get the virus.
New shoes and a drink ALWAYS make me feel better.
I was a swimmer, but as a parent understand the chaos issue. I loved the freedom and individuality of the swim team. Tell Busy Boy way to go for me!
I think I'm gonna have to get me some Crocs, I fell in love with the orange ones the other day.
Hope you and Busy Preschooler are feeling better.
Congrats to Busy Boy! Personally, we're happy when Emily isn't dead last in one of her swim events.
I think it is the weather! Pissy moods over here as well. Rain and heat alternating makes Rbelle a pissy girl. Hope tomorrow is better and congrats to busy boy!
I too suffer from control issues and abhor chaos of any kind. It would certainly make me feel murderous. BRAVO to Busy boy for such excellent swimming. Note to Busy Mom: Better get used to the swim meets.
I've got some control issues myself but I dont think the swim meet chaos would bug me that much.
But then again I have no experience so I'm pretty much talking out my ass. :)
Congratulations, Busy Boy! And congratulation, Busy Mom, for making it through the meet. I don't think I could have done it. I can't take that level of craziness.
Crocs rule!!
Was the "wizard boy book" for you? Because I just finished reading my copy and whoa! Can't wait for the seventh book!
Oh and congrats to Busy Boy!
I think I could probably place 1st in IM because I can have 12 of those things going at once and not miss a beat or screw up who I am chatting too.
