The Busy Van is in the shop yet again, nothing obvious, but the "check engine" light came back on right after I had it in the last time. And, since we're going to be leaving town, I thought I'd be all adult-y and responsible and get it looked at rather than putting duct tape over that annoying little light thingy. The A/C compressor has been making a funny noise, too, so I thought I'd get that checked as well.
Now, I know I'm a girl and everything, and I don't pretend to know a lot about things automotive, but, despite what I write here, I try very hard to have intelligent conversations with the car repair people. However, my intelligence quotient may have been knocked down a bit when I was forced to describe the noise as, "Psssssssssssst...rattle rattle...chukka chukka chukka."

Hey, that sounds pretty technical to me!
The mechanic guys really like it when you sing the 'pssssssssst....raaatttaaatttt, chuuuuuuggggggaaaalluuuuuuggggga' to the tune of a country music song.
LOL, I would like to see a man try and get that detailed and get their point across!!!
Oh, dear. That middle "chukka" sounds kinda expensive. But it's probably good to have it checked (chukked) before your trip.
Best to have it checked now. Our Check Engine light turned on right as we were leaving for Spring Break, this past March. We drove all the way to New York and back with it on, and even though we figured it was just the warning light to have the car serviced for the 30,000 mile check up, we spent the entire trip scaring ourselves into thinking we smelled something burning, or oil leaking, or something.
Turned out that it was just for the 30,000 mile check up, after all!
I have a Dodge and the "check engine" light has been on for 2 years. No mechanic can find anything wrong, and if they reset it, it just comes on the next time I fill up my tank. It used to go off if I kept my tank full and the cap on tight, but nothing works now.
I dunno. I think I'd need to SEE you make that noise. ;)
