The second couple of weeks in August are a really, really terrible time for us, childcare-wise, since Busy Dad has to go back to school before our kids and he is the childcare provider during the summer. I usually can't take the time off because we've just come back from vacation, so, for the past few years, his mom has come up here for about a week or longer to cover the child care gaps for us. We had no reason to believe that the plan would differ this year, until yesterday, when we found out that she had a knee replacement and has been in the hospital for over a week. OK, first of all she's 80, lives out of town and we knew nothing of this. Her sister told me a while back that she (Busy Dad's mom) was going to have a knee scoped and that she had refused any help or even a ride home from the procedure as they are peeved at each other all the time. But we knew nothing of a surgery. Secondly, she is now at home with no help, we have no childcare for the next 2 weeks AND my mother has picked this time to make a bunch of MD appointments that I need to take her to because my dad, also a teacher, will be back in school and he can't take her. Did I mention the part where I have no time I can take off and that I have an overwhelming amount of work to complete in the next 2 weeks as we are going to be audited? Can I at least have some cheese on my Sandwich?

You're going to need maintain a serious coffee buzz. I'd suggest buying several pounds of Starbucks. Keep multiple pots going at all times (work, home, etc.). Seriously, start looking for a VBS (ANY one will do). Or perhaps you could make a deal to trade off with a friend (I'll gladly watch your children Tuesday if you watch mine today). Not that you hadn't thought of any of this yourself. I'd watch them but Atlanta isn't exactly next door.
When it rains, it pours, and we ain't talkin' salt here. Stiff upper lip and all that, Mom. Good luck.
I can't cook a lick but I make some of the best sandwiches you'll ever taste. So when I head South to visit the sis, I'll hook you up;-)
oh man, do you think anyone would notice if you just hid out in a spa for a few days? can I go too?
Egads woman - good luck!
My sister-in-law has the same problem. It's tag-you've-got-the-kids with everyone she knows for two weeks before she goes back to school. But she only has an open-faced sandwich really....
I found this joke on Big Stupid Tommy...his sister who is a teacher was told her this one by a student.
What do you get when your feet fall asleep?
Coma Toes.
It put a smile on my face, may it put a smile on yours. Oh and I just joined Blingo. So win me an Ipod. I can't wait til Christmas!#$% :)
Yah....good luck with that!
Sheesh BM, best of luck little lady.
TGIF.
That is TOO much stress for anyone! I know you will figure it all out, but it sure doesn't sound easy. I am sorry.
