Sleep Quest

The Preschooler Formerly Known as Busy Baby has had a rough couple of nights for reasons known only to him. Now, I know some of you have babies and you don't (and shouldn't) feel sorry for me, but, nonetheless, this waking and screaming thing is getting old. Last night, he was literally up about every 2 minutes all. night. long. screaming and crying. I don't think he is sick, he may be having bad dreams, but we woke him all the way up multiple times with no improvement.

So, tonight we embarked on the "Quest to Eliminate Any and Every Cause of Night Time Awakening in a Kid That is Way Old Enough to Sleep at Night". He has been swimming, eaten dinner AND a bed time snack, had a warm bath, gone to the bathroom, had cortisone put on his bug bites, white noise machine has been engaged, sheets are fresh, soft cotton PJ's have been applied, Benadryl has been administered, sippy cup filled with bourbon shots, nose blown, bedtime story read.

Tonight had better be different or he's gonna have to get an night-shift job.

I have a sippy cup filled with bourbon, but thats for me.

Poor little preschooler formerly known as Busy Baby. And poor Mommy.

I hope he slept soundly last night.

Soooo........did it work?

Ah I remember those days. No toddlers for me now though. Although I think it is a little better when they are babies.

My son used to have dreams of cats attacking his head and he'd wake up screaming. It freaked me out! But it only lasted about a week. Good luck - to both of you!

We never had nightmares or such in our household but I will share the one thing that made my youngest sit up in her bed and cry in her sleep.....

she had to go potty and DIDNT KNOW IT. She was only half awake and if I asked, she said 'no' she didn't have to go. But she did.

Took me a couple times to figure it out... (Long Nights) and once I figured it out I'd wake, help a still sleeping crying child to the potty and then poof - magically she was back to sleep.

May not help... but tuck it away for future reference! :)

You know the night wakings are always harder after you've become accostomed to sleeping all night. We'll have one or 2 around our house every once in a while and the disruption to my sleep has horrific consequenses. Hope last night went better.

It's probably just a phase....I've learned this through the numerous times each of mine go through the 3 days of freaky nighttime behav. I of course jump to the dramatic conclusion that THIS IS THE WAY HE'S ALWAYS GOING TO BE...... and it always goes back to normal. Not much help, though when you're propping your own eyes open, and dealing with a cranky kid. Hope all is well.

Would you come put ME to bed?

How did it go?

StinkyBoy often has nights like that. But I eventually noticed that when I would talk to him he wasn't actually awake. I'd try to wake him completely before he'd go back to sleep.

Hope last night was better - it seemed so much easier when they were teeny weeny and were expected to be up and night, don't you think?

I figured the sippy cup full of bourbon was for BusyMom and BusyDad...

I'm with you girl--- my dd, age 3, is going through some kind of sleep "thing". she won't go to sleep before 11, at the earliest. just won't go to sleep. ughhhhhh.

Gosh, I hope it gets better for you...fast!

Seth started sleeping through the night at around 6 months, then suddenly stopped at 2yrs.He's 4 and still wakes up once a night.I may have to try the bourbon filled sippy cup myself.

Ugh! We have been having trouble with babybeaux. He did well the past two nights, only needing a sip of water one night. So I have no advice, but I do feel sorry for you as I feel sorry myself!

Wait a minute! You forgot hugs! The key is hugs. And rib tickles.

Sorry to hear you are sleep deprived...not fun while trying to work and actually have a life. Hope it gets better soon!

Both my kids have been have trouble staying asleep at night lately. Please let me know if the bourbon - uh, I mean Benadryl works!

It's so easy: he's obviously very, very concerned about the effect the fluxuation of oil prices have had on the global market, coupled with the leading economic indicators predicting that the fall of the dollar against the pound is contining to create instability in the import excise tariff rate on global automobile, electronics and textile shipping.

It's so simple, I can't believe anyone hasn't figured it out...

On a more serious note, my daughter had the same "I have to go to the bathroom but I just don't realize it, and it's really really uncomfortable" crying wakeups for a while - I just went in, led her to the bathroom, let her do her business then went back to bed. She was fine after that.

Did the bourbon work? :)

My dd used to have serious night terrors. After lots of trial and error, we found two things to help. The power of suggestion with 'dream spray' - a linen spray scented with lavender that we told her would bring good dreams. And on those nights where she couldn't stay away - she slept in a sleeping bag on the floor next to our bed. Worked for us!

Hope you are getting some sleep. It the night terrors - i remember those.. be gone in a few days - ..
Hang in there!

From the time we moved Tony into a bed until just about a year ago, we had a small air mattress beside our bed. If Tony woke up in the night, he knew he could come in and go to sleep in there. It saved on the screaming nights and the grumpy mornings.

I hope your nights have been better.
