ChangesAs I hauled out the school uniforms for washing and labeling ths evening, I realized that this is a big year for Busy Girl. Sixth grade is a year for changes at their school. Not only will she be changing classes (a big deal for the kids), but she'll be wearing the big kid's uniform. She has worn the little girl jumpers and blouses with a Peter Pan collar for the last time, and, instead will be wearing a regular unform skirt and an oxford shirt. I know it's just a uniform, but it makes me sort of wistful. I'm a bit sad because she's growing fast, but, more heavily on my mind is the fact that

For Local Blog

Yeah, it's tough watching them grow even in dribbles and drabs...that's why I have my heir and my spare. Don't know what I'll do when the spare gets "old". The factory is closed! Your blog is great! Keep up the good work!
Ironing. Ick.
I remember my days with the uniform. We had to wear ties at my school and boy was it a pain. I guess it paid off since now im my career I wear a tie and almost feel naked without it.
Sixth grade is an excellent time to add laundry (her own) and ironing duty to the daily chores!
Needless to say, I learned how to iron at an early age...especially after my first spring...popovers=iron shirt
winter...sweaters=cover unironed shirt. The only time in my life that I loved winter.
I wish my girls wore a uniform...I could pass down this domestic tradition to them early.
Do people still iron?
I'm with Summer. Teach the girl to iron! I've been teaching my 10 year old to do her own laundry this summer. Till today, when the dryer conked out on her.
HAHAh... err sorry... ;)
Awww, I remember those days! We weren't allowed to wear just the skirt until 7th grade, and once we hit highschool, it was back to the jumpers for 4 more years.
Thinking about it, I think I still have them somewhere.....
Good for her! Here's to a great year for all the kids going back to school!
then I suppose mentioning that I got my period in 6th grade is out of the question?
Ironing! I just can't do it. It's lucky that I married a construction worker.
ROFL! I feel your pain! I over buy my son's uniform shirts and then just iron them all at once when he finally runs out. I'm quite pitiful that way! LOL!
That downy stuff you spray and smooth out the wrinkles works great; after that, it will get wrinkled in the car/bus etc. anyway!
The growing up changes.. its happening way too fast!
*sigh* I miss mine having school uniforms. Too many choices makes for very stressful mornings.
Countrymom is right. That Downy Wrinkle Release is awesome.
I think now might be a great time for Busy Girl to learn the art of shirt-ironing.
I never learned.
Which is why my husband has to get up early to do my sleeves.
You have to iron the oxford shirts??? DAMN, I knew I should've bought the polos.........
Yet another argument against school uniforms. ;)
=G
Don't you have a laundry in your town? Get somebody else to iron. You need to spend every waking minute entertaining us.
I wore the jumper style uniform until 6th grade, and I remember only ironing the collar and sleeves...you've brought back long gone memories! Thanks!
Ahhh...now I understand what my mother went through!
AH rats with the ironing. They always find a way to get us involved in our children's education one way or another!! *snicker
Iron??? What's that?
My mother never ironed my shirts. I was wrinkled a lot! Even those gorgeous turquoise plaid polyester skirts got wrinkled too.
How sad that I didn't even care!
Ironing? That's a swear word in my house!
I used to do ironing for extra income. I totally love ironing. I know I'm weird. If you know how to do it right, its not so bad. For one thing, always set the iron up in front of the TV, watch a movie and do it all at once and get it over with. I know what you mean about wistful, my daughter is a SR. this year, I am happy and sad at the same time.
My GirlChild is going into the 5th grade. That's where they make the transition from jumpers to skirts and they physically move to the second floor of the building. It makes me sad too.
ha ha ha.Just send them to the cleaners, they'll iron those buggers.
Ooooh! The I word?!
Can't she wear a vest or something? Yes, I think that would look swell!
ohhhh, ironing is no good!!! maybe pull it really quick out of the dryer!!!
ds starts wearing a uniform here in the 3rd grade....
I think they switch to skirts from jumpers when they get hips to hold up the skirts! We've still got 2 years in our house for this event luckily. Hips = puberty.
I never had uniforms when I was in school. Back then when uniforms were an issue I was against it. Now I see it could be good. In middle school especially, you "had" to have the certain brands from the certain stores. I was made fun of so much because most of the time I didn't. Yet if there were uniforms I'd probably be made fun of for something else, I was such an ugly kid. :)
As for ironing, I rarely iron. Except for special occasions like first dates. I have to give a good first impression, then the second date I go back to my wrinkly clothes. :)
