Katrina and the rainsThe only rain in the 10 day forecast? All day Saturday, the same day as Busy Girl's outdoor birthday party. Stupid hurricane. I live in Tennessee, I shouldn't have to worry about hurricanes.
This is where you come in: what in the wide, wide world of sports am I going to do with ten 11 year old girls for 3.5 hours? I will likely be alone since Busy Dad is going to take the boys "off site". I'm serious, help me.

If they all attend school with Busy Girl, it would be a great idea to teach them all to iron those Peter Pan collared white school blouses. Their parent's would love you for it.
I think your Busy Guys are setting you up for failure for volunteering to go AWOL during the party.
Music so they can dance - are they 'into' that yet? I have boys - I'm NO help.
They're all 10-11 yrs old, right? Hmm... well, there's always a movie. Maybe there's something new out that not everyone has seen yet? Or what about an arts & crafts type party where they do a project? I don't know if they're too old for that sort of thing? Or, maybe make it a "theme" party of some sort: a beach party - you could have them limbo and try to hula dance (do they still sell hula-hoops? you could use those), that would kill some time. Or tell them they're going to play "Annie" and put them to work cleaning your basement or something. (OK, mostly kidding about that last one.)
Oh and feeding them will kill a few minutes, right? Maybe give them stuff that requires lots of chewing! Or (depending on how many guests there are)have a "make your own pizza" meal - it will result in a mess, but it will take them an extra few minutes to decide what to put on their pizza. And there's always cake & gifts - that should take up at least 30-40 minutes, right?
I second Erin on the "arts and crafts" suggestion. Toys 'R Us has Block Party Bracelet, Wrist Rox, Giant Bead Box, and other jewelry making kits all priced $20 and under.
If you have access to an arts & crafts store, you can pick up some paint, brushes, and glasses/wooden boxes and have the girls decorate it as their party souvenir.
You can also do a scavenger hunt. Get a few girlie items they'd like and hide them. Organize girls into teams. Give clues to each team and they hunt for the items. Team that finds the most items wins a prize.
Best,
Maria
You could try a beauty day....lots of nail polish, makeup, face masks, etc. You could also do something food-wise like make your own pizza.
Hey! I can comment again! The other day I tried, and your comment-firewall-screener thingy called me a name and wouldn't let me publish. It was a bit shocking. Hope the party goes well.
Just give them each a cell phone. They'll talk for three and a half hours easy. The only problem will be getting them to hang up.
Most of my suggestions have already been made: movie, fix their own food, craft project.
So how about something unique. Like...hmmm...I know--a housecleaning contest! Put each girl in a room with the required cleaning supplies and see who can do the best job. Remind them that it's quality that counts, not speed, so they'll be sure to take their time. You can give the winner her own swiffer, and perhaps your copy of "Super Mom" when you've finished reading it.
Make marshmallow guns and let them battle. It will entertain them for at least 2 hours.
Whatever you do, get yourself some ear plugs. Maybe the kind that those guys who work on the runways at airports wear.
Craft projects are always a hit with Princess and her friends - that and talking over a bowl of chips. We had a particular hit with white pillow cases and fabric markers - they all did little designs on each others. Cheap & easy, the pillow cases - not me ;)
Not sure if you have any of these places near you, but we have paint your own pottery stores. That would give them a craft to do, but leave your house still standing. Ours is called "You're fired".
Good luck!
Call them all, bring pjs and have a middle-of-the-day pajama party - decorate cupcakes, make popcorn, watch movies, do karaoke, blow up ballooons for them to stick up their shirts...oh wait, that was MY 12th birthday party.
Looks like you have a lot of good suggestions. Maybe the rain will hold off and you can just let them run wild outside. Let us all know who it went and what you actually did. Have a nice weekend.
If it's dark enough, you can have them play "Murder in the Dark." Just move the lamps & expensive vases first. This kept us entertained for hours when I was a kid. Don't know how to link in comments, but here's a url: http://www.eventwise.co.uk/asp/Game_031.asp?CategoryId=77. Also, you can do a treasure hunt where one clue leads to the next hidden clue, etc.
1. I don't know what part of Tennessee you live in but there are four of Club Libby Lu in your state...maybe one is near by. They would love this check out clublibbylu.com
2. Have your own spa party at your house. Sometimes you can find spa kits online or at stores...Sephora might carry one. What girl doesn't like pampering?
In Singapore, at our birthday parties we had indoor games like "Pass the Parcel."
Do people play that game here? It probably isn't as fun to kids these days as it was to me and my friends.
if I calculate correctly, I think today is the outdoor party, and if your weather is like mine (which I imagine it is ;-) outside), you are in for a humid humid humid day. have fun with the party!
I see duct tape in your future!
