Houstonians represent

OK, Houston people, I need you. What are the main grocery, discount (Target, etc.) and department stores there?

Main grocery stores would be Kroger, Randalls and HEB. Houston is the 4th largest city in the US so we have pretty much everything in the discount store and department store range. I have that grocery stores are the only thing that really change from region to region.

That should be "I have noticed.... "

There are also probably 40 Wal-Mart Supercenters in the Houston metro area, plus 10-12 Sam's Clubs.

We also have Costco. Department stores would be Palais Royal and Foleys.

Target, Wal-Mart, Kroger, Randall's, HEB, Food Town. Also just read that Houston residents can leave food donations at the curb on their regular trash days and waste management folks will deliver it to those in need.

Our faves - Kroger (rah!), Wal Mart (because I HAVE to) and Target (because I WANT to!). Wal Marts are everywhere. You can't go wrong with trying to fina Wal Mart down here.

I remember Kroger, Albertsons (did they leave?, and (my fave fave) Randealls. Ohh, such good bread!

I think, though, you already know all of this.

Hey Busy Mom,

If we want to send a gift card for one of those stores you mentioned - either for the Busy Guests to use for their own needs (assuming they lost most of their stuff in the hurricane) or for them to pass on to a friend or neighbor in need - do you have a PO Box or something we can send to? (Or is there a way to do it online where it is automatically sent to them?)

I already donated to the Red Cross and to the water/supply drive at my local fire dept., but that feels so impersonal. NJ is very far away and I think many of us are feeling really helpless right now watching all of this stuff on TV. I'm not exactly rolling in the cash here, but I can send Pop-Tarts!

Sorry, representing Houston--FINALLY. As said earlier, all the groceries were represented. Target, wal-mart but NO K-mart in town anymore. Academy Sports is a great store that I've not seen mentioned. Foley's (macy's), Dillard's, Mervyn's and JC Penney are pretty standard fare at most malls. Bed Bath and BEyond and Linens and Things are also great options for all things to get a house put together. IKEA is also here, but nowhere near the dome.
