I think there may be 2 or 3 of you out there, so I just decided to post some odds and ends about our fair city.
-The new interchange at I-40 and Briley/White Bridge Road is lovely, a sight to behold and the traffic coming right off 440 is so much better when you're heading west during rush hour. But has anyone noticed it has just shifted the traffic jam down the road right past White Bridge?
-The boarded up Houston's site is kind of sad.
-Roma Pizza on Elliston really needs to get it's "A" back because I wouldn't really want to eat Roma "Pizz".
-Is is just me or is the new J. Alexander's site on West End taking FOREVER to get completed? I'm pretty sure I could have built it out of Lego Bricks or Toys (you can't say "Legos") by myself before now.

For Local Blog

Not to mention that Fuddrucker's is closed on West End. When I drove by that when we were there in July, I was shocked, cuz a couple of co-workers and I would go there quite often as we did with Chez Jose's just off West End.
That can not be a real link! And yet, it is...
Get a grip l-egomaniacs.
The J Alexanders is taking forever... although I've vowed not to go back there until they put the white chocolate raspberry cheesecake back on the menu.
I also want to know....
When's the Cheesecake Factory in Green Hills going to open?
Why don't we have a Bahama Breeze restaurant?
And I have seen the happy dancing guy! Does he have long dreadlocks? I think he has also spent some time near the park across from a certain big hospital corporation where I work part time....
J. Alexander's sucks...all of them.
BM, I bet we've seen each other in the Starbucks. I work in that building on the top floor (law firm). Small, small world.
Why is the White Bridge Road Target always EMPTY of inventory? UGH!
No offense to anyone local, but I get so aggravated with the inconsiderate Vanderbilt students. They really THINK they own the town...well, at least all of West End Avenue area.
Wow - I'm surprised the Lego Bricks and toy people have not contacted me, as I have referred to Legoes (my spelling) in numerous posts.
They might want to know that LB&T are safe for septic systems; when we had our tank pumped recently, the service found a gajillion LB&Ts in there. They offered to wash them off and let us keep them but I decided they were trash, not treasure.

Maybe the "Happy Guy" is happy because he finds the Target Team Huddle especially rewarding.....
No way! I had no idea they closed Houston's. I loved that place!
I may be in your neck of the woods this weekend.Randy may have to come there to turn in a bid.
We went to Opry Mills last weekend - why I don't know, just looking for something different to do I guess, but the interstate construction out that way is AWFUL. Luckily I don't travel that section of town very often. I liked Houston's too and hated to hear they closed. Try the Target's in Cool Springs, guess everyone else is going to WM instreat of Target in this area.
There was a man who walked all the time around here, even worn a coat in the summer, anyway not till after he died last year did we know "the rest of the story". Seems he was well educated, loved to read, former military. and if you offered him a ride he would get in and loved to talk. No one knew why he lived this way (in a barn) - but the community really pitched in when he died. Wish I had know the "rest of the story" before he died.
They had to close Houstons when I stopped driving through there every other week and stopped there for lunch. ;)

The Lego people seem to have some bricks and toys up their . . .
Oh, family blog, right. Sorry.
While Roma Pizz is good, here's another one for ya. A while back the Waffle House at the intersection of OHB & 65 had a burnt out light makeing it "Waffle Hose."
But even that is takes second place to my all-time fave... When the liquor store on Percy Priest exit of I-40 had some burnt out letters on their sign, and instead of Discount Liquors it read "Disco Liquors."
Woo-Hoo!!
Looks like you have more of us local visitors than you knew.
I didn't go to Houston's often, but it's sad that it's not there.
Roma Pizz. Not a good thing. I saw a bum doing that very thing on the streets of Rome. Ewwww.
This may be a little off the subject, but when we moved up here 12 years ago I kept seeing tags on the front of cars/vans that said "CPA" and I thought MAN, there are a LOT of Certified Public Accountants here. Then I found out the CPA tags stood for Christ Presbyterian Academy.
My DS likes to point out that the local diner is missing a few letters from its sign, so it now reads "B EAKFA T SPECIALS/EARLY BIRD SPECIALS." Priceless.
I still don't understand the point of the 40/Briley thing. Seems like an awfully big exit ramp just for Centennial Parkway.
I miss The Cooker.
That Lego thing may be the single most inane piece of "preserve our brand name" idiocy I've ever seen.
I like it when you post local stuff--makes me wonder if my son's noticed any of that. Not likely, of course.
Don't worry about J. Alexander's--they're overpriced and the food's not that good.
Speaking of overpriced, we finally got our own P. F. Changs (I keep wondering if they're related to P. F. Flyers).
Ahh, West End restaurants.
I actually never liked Houstons very much, but I'm still sad to see it gone. It was an institution, even if I didn't like the food. The loss of the Cooker was even worse; local institution with many locations and the veggie plate made me very happy. Washed down with fruit tea, of course. I'm sad to see that Chez Jose is closed, while much less flavorful burrito joints Baja Fresh and Qudoba are open. Sad. As for Fuddruckers, I know someone who works next door at Salathai, and he says they're going to close next summer. Their building is already basically sold to someone who wants to tear it down. I'm betting the same folks own the Fuddruckers building and are planning to put up something larger. I liked Fuddruckers, but Cheesburger Charley's is a good substitute, too.
And yes, Vandy students do seem to think they own the place. I made the mistake of going to the White Bridge Target on the weekend freshmen moved in both this year and last year. I really need to find out those dates and hide during that time. There are few things quite so insufferable as a bunch of 18 year olds with superiority complexes maneuvering overloaded shopping carts en masse.
I have seen happy dancing guy!!! how funny!!!
and I miss houston's too. I loved their salads.
how about elliston place soda shoppe??? yummmmmmmmy milkshakes.. and vandyland of course..
Funny that they don't want you to call them Legos, yet their domain name is Lego.com, not legobricks.com.
What about the snake!! Did Busy Dad figure out what it was? Did somebody catch it? Major eeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwww!!!!
Okay, what is UP with the Lego company? Someone a little up tight there or what???? Lego, Legos, still the same little plastic boogers I step on in the middle of the night!
