On, Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen......Eisenhower and Kennedy and Johnson and Nixon...
Christmas Holiday Christmas music, everyone's got an opinion: there's too much, there's too little, it's annoying, it's uplifting, it starts too early, it starts too late, and, so on. I may be weird (oh, stop that, and you know who you are), but for me, Christmas music habits are kind of hard wired inside me. I can hear Christmas music in October, it doesn't offend me, but it doesn't move or inspire "spirit" in me, either. I just look and listen and my mind says, "Oh, it's not that time, yet." Even right after Thanksgiving, my "Internal Christmas Meter" doesn't go off and everyone else's seems to. I've thought that perhaps I'm not trying hard enough, so I've been tuning into the 5 politically correct "holiday" stations on XM radio to no avail. I mean, I like the tunes, most are happy and all, but I'm just not feeling it, yet. I don't mean in a "bah-humbug" way, either, it's just not time.
Since I've somehow morphed into a reasonably responsible adult (you again, I said, 'be quiet'), I do the things I need to do to prepare for the season, but I have figured out that my "Internal Christmas Meter" is set for December 15th. Totally arbitrary, but December 15th seems to be the date that it feels like Christmastime to me. I will sing along with all the songs and enjoy the decroations, but before then it all feels, I don't know, "forced". However, please don't let that stop you from showering gifts on me before then, I can override that meter if needed.

You and I linked to the same site! I'm more into the reminiscing of Christmases past right now... probably because we are in a totally new place again this Christmas, with no close friends or family. So the holiday stations on FM (particularly 104) are filling a big need for me right now.
I cannot friggin believe my stepdaughters don't know the WORDS to Silent Night or Away in a Manger or anything remotely Jesus-y. They're not singing them in the schools anymore, so the girls never learned them.
How can you grow up without singing Silent Night?! And if you don't want school children to feel uncomfortable about Jesus, then why are you celebrating Christmas in the schools at all?! Hello?
Sorry about the rant. My tune lately is "(They're Coming to Take Me) Away in a Manger."
It's going to take a lot more than music to get me in the spirit this year.

I don't what all this talk about Christmas is. It's still like three months away. Right? Right?!
I feel the same way, it must be something like a biological clock, huh? ; ) Only it's a Xmasological Clock! Great Post.
I'm still stuck on "reasonably responsible adult"...(holding back a snortle)
Merry Christmas, backacha'!
The tree is trimmed. The snow has fallen. The stockings are hung by the chimney with care.
But I'm wishing it were June....
No bah humbug here, but Christmas/holidays mean snow, cold, and ice. Thanks, but no thanks!
ooh, you see that, the 'be quiet'... it worked!
Lalalalala....lalala
LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!
We went caroling last night - THAT put me in the mood!
Funny. My middle child's birthday is December 15th. Out of respect for her birthday, we do not decorate till after the 15th. After the 15th I panic and go into full Christmas mode.
Ha! I was going to say that, but lynfh beat me to it! Son1's birthday is the 15th, so generally we do the tree and stuff the first Saturday after that, but that doesn't really leave enough time to get it all done so I must sneakily shop beforehand. Mostly because I am sort of the hub of the family at Christmas - everybody asks ME what they should get everybody else! Ack!
I'm hearing ya! It doesn't strike me til mid-December or so. No tree up yet here... We have lights on the mantle and that's fine for now.
Gorgeous picture of your kids! All handsome & coordinated! Very nice, BusyMom (& Dad)!
Christmas Music shall not be played until after the Macy's parade has concluded.
No penalty shall be imposed if it doesn't affect until 12 days before Christmas. However, this is December 13th, not the 15th.
(Of course, I no longer actually watch the Macy's parade on TV, since what they show basically made for TV with too many NBC promos thrown in.)
My 3-year-old told me tonight she wants a Christmas tree at her house so we can't put off the tree trimmin' much longer. I still have our Halloween decorations in the "to be filed to the attic" pile.
well, March must have been a very busy month because my middle child was born Dec. 15th also. We decorate the first weekend of Dec. usually so she and her brother (who's b-day is Dec. 17th - yes, 2 b-days a week before christmas in my house! straight jacket is at the ready!) have christmassy birthdays every year. They can't imagine it any other way!
as for spirit... it's hard to feel it in POST KATRINA HELL! but we're trying.......
