Well, here I am at Minor Medical Center watching my mother sleep. I don't really know anything exciting, but I promised I'd be back later, so here I am. Her medical doctor is turning her care over to the oncologist (though I'm pretty sure this has nothing to do with cancer) and the cardiologist.
Cardiologist?! Do you mean the same cardiologist that I suggested they call while she was in the ER all morning? The same cardiologist, that, when I suggested they might want to call him, the ER doctor practically patted me on the head:
ER doctor: "X-ray clear, CT is OK, blah blah blah...""
Me: "I'm tellin' ya (we had a prior conversation), it's cardiac, call the cardiologist. Her EF is something like 25%, she has no circulation, that's why she feels like shit."
ER doctor: "Oh, yes, we'll take goooood care of your mother, don't you worry."
Me: "Piss off, I know that's what she needs, I have ESPN. Don't make me get my numchucks out of my locker."
Normally, I am a great family member at the doctor and the hospital. But, I had already incurred the wrath of the nursing staff by walking around outside the room and lurking in the doorway (if you've ever worked in an ER you know what I mean), so they were miffed with me. I never do that, but, I swear we had been there for 45 minutes and she still hadn't gotten an IV, a breathing treatment, or been put on a monitor (they only had one other patient, I looked). The nurse chased me back inside the room while speaking to me in a manner usually reserved for an episode of Sesame Street, so, I flipped her using my ninja moves, right there in the hall.
OK, I can't ramble on about this silliness anymore, I just saw where they got 12 of the miners out alive, unbelievable! My thoughts and prayers go out to all, especially for the one who did not survive.
Thanks, too for all your good wishes for my mother, you are all the bestest. I'm not the bestest at returning e-mails, but, please know I read them ALL, sometimes more than once.
UPDATED: A terrible tragedy in West Virginia, I cannot imagine wht they must be feeling.

Hey, sometimes you have to use your ninja nursing skills to be a good advocate for your mom. Sounds like lots of people were falling down on the job. Good job, Busy Mom. Keeping your mom & all of you in my prayers.
Hey, I've been in that episode of Sesame Street too, the one brought to us courtesy of the letter F and U. I really have been in your place...the roles are getting all confused, aren't they..busy mom, protective daughter, super nurse, organizer extraordianaire. We want all those problems to fit neatly in a container to stack in the closet so we can not see them but know they are safely cared for. Hold her hand, make it through tonight and work on tomorrow later. And keep writing, you have a gift for words.
Hugs for your Mum. Keep up the good work!
My thoughts are with you. And you give that ER staff hell. We all need an advocate while we're down, someone to make sure we're not ignored.
You're doing the right thing.
I'm wishing for the best!
Practice your ninja moves in the hallway--THAT will show them!
Still thinking good Busy Family thoughts.
Sending vibes to you and your family; keep tuning in to your internal ESPN.
Argh! I would be so frustrated with the ER dr.! Hang in there and definitely keep up with your ninja move practice. Sounds like you need it these days.
Wishing the best for your mother!!!
Isn't that devasting about the miners? That crushes my heart!!
Been down the road of the ER/Hospital staff and a mother who deserved better. You just keep doing what your doing, Busy Mom. My prayers are with you and your mom.
Unbelievable news this morning in WV! Terrible and way too emotional for those families.
Does that make you a "helicopter family member"? :-)
And the WV situation is just heartbreaking. :-(
Prayers going out for you and your mom (and dad).
Our newspaper headline this morning was that the miners were alive and I was teary with joy. Then I signed onto the Internet and got the update and was teary wtih sadness. That brief hope had to make it so much harder.
I also have been through what you are going through. Just know that you and your family are in our thoughts and Prayers.
Praying also for the W. VA families - such a tragedy.
Pkease keep us updated.
ER staff sounds like they deserve hell! I would be mad too! That miner thing was confusing and sad.
Enjoy ESPN!
Sending your Mom our heartful love and prayers! When you feel there is nothing you can do... I think a good Ninja move now and again can do wonders for your sanity.
Further to your Espn... Mine always comes in the form of dreams. When i was a teenager there were nights when i was afraid to go to sleep in case i dreamt something.
May God watch over you, your family and the miners and their loved ones.
Yeah, that miner situation is unbelievably horrific, isn't it? Particularly after seeing the front page this morning saying 12 of them survived. Eerie.
Please keep us posted on your mom.
Hope everything turns out okay for your mom - hang in there!
Go Ninja Mama....are we going to have to rename you?
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your mom.
And the miner story is just awful...I went to sleep last night all happy, thinking they had been rescued. I was so heartbroken this morning....I cannot imagine what the families are going through.
I cannot believe about the minors. I have been watching this story on the news since it started. I live in Tx so we are dealing with the wildfire situation, but I have seen enough. What happened last night was horrible. I can't believe that they got their hopes up like that:(
