Sorry, I haven't been able to get much Internet access today, and, it's not for lack of trying! If you have been skulking around Minor Medical Center today, I was the one with the snowman flannel pants wandering the halls with the laptop computer stuck out in front of me trying to find a wifi connection. Yep, that was me, scary huh? I swear, I will shower tomorrow even though it's like trying to bathe under the flow of water coming out of a syringe.
I usually use dial-up at the hospital, but, since it ties up the phone line here in the room, I usually just use it at night, and, only briefly during the day so people can call. Today, I had to leave the line open because they took my mother for a thoracentesis and bronchoscopy and I just knew the doctor was going to call after the procedure. She left the room at 9:15. Ten-fifteen came and went, 11:15 came and went and my father and I took turns walking in the hall. I now realize where I got the pacing thing from.
I heard several overhead pages for her doctor, and, being the little rainbow of optimism I am, I naturally assumed something had gone to shit with her down at her procedures. 12:15 arrived, and the phone rang. "Ah, ha!" I thought to myself (because I can't actually think to anyone else but myself...), "there's the doctor". Nope. It was my mother. She was finished with the thoracentesis (they got a liter of fluid off her right lung) and was waiting for the pulmonologist to get there for the bronch. She finally got back to the room around 3pm, so, I never actually made it to work today. We don't really know any results yet, but, she thinks she may feel a little better, except for the part where they poked a hole in her back.
During the interminable wait, much too much CNN was watched which resulted in me attempting to book a flight to West Virginia, where I was going to explain to the press that the poor doctor DID NOT KNOW when or if the survivor from the mining accident was going to wake up. During the press conference, the man gave a very detailed explanation of what was going on and what they did and did not know, and EVERY question was a rephrasing of, "When do you think he'll wake up?". Lucky for me I couldn't get a flight there or to Jerusalm where the SAME DAMN THING was going on at the press conference about Sharon, only it was in Hebrew.
However, all that paled in comparison when my Marine father misheard what award "Brokeback Mountain" was nominated for. Upon listening more closely, he realized that they said SAG award. (Whoa there, relax. He is not discriminatory, he was genuinely surprised before he realized what it said.)

I swear, journalist seem to be getting dumber and dumber. I was watching CNN the other night when we were awaiting word... and the sad news broke. I watched a journalist actually say to a family member, "So, you must be pretty upset right now, aren't you?"
UGH!

Hang in there, Busy Mom. Anderson Cooper will get you through this.
Taking my dad to the dr today to see if his cancer has recurred. I hope your mom feels better since her thoracentesis.
I'm NOT a nurse... but also was thinking similar thoughts about that poor doctor. I wasn't even watching tv (I don't) but was getting it online at CNN.
I'm just pretty much sick of ALL the media and the problems they cause. They are not journalists anymore... they are rats and shock jocks. (Oooops... am I getting on a soap box? Blame it on my pissy mood stemming from work. Hopefully after this morning I'll be miss merry sunshine. Promise).
The Brokeback Mountain comment? Hilarious. Coffee. Nose. Monitor. Must clean.
I hope your mom is goind well this morning. I'll be looking for an update and thinking of you guys.
Too much CNN is scientifically proven to mess with your brain. Might I suggest Food Network? Or my personal favorite, VH-1?
Did you happen to catch the story where Pat Robertson said Sharon was smote by God? If that isn't enough to turn off CNN, I don't know what is.
my very best to your Mom. I hope this helps a lot.
Having just spent an afternoon at the hospital I am now picturing you wandering the halls of one of our local medical centers (we have like 4 million)in flanel pants.
Hope Busy Grandma is feeling better today, that the test results are positive, and that you get a shower and a good nights sleep.
I also thought it was FAG. Thanks for the tip.
LMAO on dad and the SAG award. Those journalists make me sick how they act during a tragic time. Did you see them following the family members after they found out they were actually dead instead of alive? Poor man was having to smack the microphones out of his face. Hope your mom is doing better.
Your mom should feel better with that fluid off her lungs - it helps my grandmother when she's had it done!
I know what you mean about CNN. They can certainly beat a story until it is past dead, can't they?
I hope she starts to get better now that they removed some fluid.
I would be doing the same thing with the lap top. I wish everyone would wize up and just broadcast wifi everywhere.
Sounds like SAG, ha ha ha. You made my day!
i'm soooo glad you're watching CNN, despite the department of redundancy department anchors, because that happens to be the company my better half works for. (and, trust me, they're workin' on that rapid-fire-repeating question problem!)with warm regards, neva (aka puppytoes) (oh, and i hope you don't mind, but i 'borrowed' your blond joke) : ) best wishes to your mom
