A lovely Saturday, no soccer because of spring break. The weekend is ours.
Kinda.
MIL in town, kids buck wild, and we're headed to an exciting day at the rugby pitch (BIL in big tournament). I am armed with ways to distract kids from naked guys drinking beer out of shoes and bawdy rugby tunes.
Busy Girl allegedly has softball practice this afternoon. We're in the middle of spring break and both coaches are out of the country, but, she is convinced that there is practice this afternoon. I didn't tell you she's playing softball? Yeah, don't quite know how that happened. She's got no real interest in the game as far as I know, but, her friends play. She played baseball a while back, and, was pretty good at it, but, I'm not so sure she can do it anymore. She, however, thinks that she will walk in there and get to be the pitcher (she joined late and hasn't practiced with the team, yet). If you know anything about softball and baseball, people tend to take these things a bit seriously. I don't know how this will play out. I hate softball. But, I'll get over it. I wish we lived in St. Louis, they sell beers at kids games.
How you doin'?

Hi Busy Mom. Nice to meet you. Have a great Saturday. My SIL is babysitting Girlie (age 7) this afternoon so Hubby and I can go see a violent movie called V for Vendetta. I don't care if it's a total gore-fest. I get to see a movie, I get to see a movie. Woohoo. And yes, it is my birthday (in a few days, anyway). Good luck with the softball. I used to play as a kid and I remember the parents. sheesh.
Beer at kids games is a wonderful idea. I always thought that was the best marketing ploy Chuck E Chhese ever had. Hope y'all have a fun weekend!
Actually? Sounds like a lot of fun. Go get 'em, Busy Girl!! Unless, of course, there really is no practice. In which case you may want to hold back a bit.
We, meanwhile, are preparing for two other couples to come over to our place tonight for a sleep over. Can anyone say 'Pillow fight'? :-)
Our Spring Break was this past week, and we had TWO games and TWO practices!!! Wassupwidat????
I have a preteen soccer queen at my house, too, and like Busygirl, she once played softball. She was pretty good at it, especially considering she had never played before, either. However, after a while, she found it "boring" (her word) because there was too much time where she just stood around, with no action happening. She strictly plays soccer now.
You are right about how serious youth softball/baseball is. Invest in the best lawn chair you can find, pack a bag to keep in your vehicle so everything you will need come Hell or High Water will be there waiting for you. Blankets, sunblock, bug spray, any kind of protective gear you can find. Oh, and, say goodbye to weekends until the season is over. Those softball tournaments are looonnggg. Other than that, have fun.
Hey there, Busy Mom! It has been a long time since I have been over to your blog or anyone else's for that matter. Got a new JOB and it keeps me quite busy and con't really blog like I used to. Anyway, the Bugs played softball for many years and we found the parents more that humorous to say the least.
Anyway, invest in a really good cooler with wheels and lots of space for anything and everything to eat and drink. And make sure to get one for the kids as well!
I'm still in sweat pants and a t-shirt. We're going out for dinner and I might just put a bra on. Oh, OK... I'll change my clothes. Sigh.
Total unproductive laaaazeeee day here. But I have to leave for the airport at 4:30AM so I'm trying to soak in some laziness.
Love me an occasionally lazy day.
Spring break and 40 degree temps is not making me feel very "spring breakish" (that and a sick 3-year-old). Had a fun Friday night, though, as I got together with some friends from college. The rugby game sounds entertaining!
did you make it to the pitches?
it was wicked cold, wasn't it? I heard the Nashville Men's team won, I think, but I didn't hear about the Old Boys. The women did not fare so well, I'm afraid.
I'm moving to St. Louis! Thanks for the tip. Actually, parents at my son't school bring tubs of cleverly disguised MARGARITAS to the games sometimes. But I think with the combination of the dreaded baseball, that's a big ole buzz kill, you know?
