I did not know that.I heard about Google SMS on the radio this morning. From your text-message enabled phone, you can send Google (46645) a message and type a search query and it'll return results right to you on your phone screen. It beats the price of a 411 call when you're looking for a number since you can get phone book listings. You can also get stuff like movie times, sports scores and weather forecasts among lots of other things.
What will Google think of next? I sure hope Google Babysitting is in alpha testing somewhere.

Google has redefined the universe. A couple of California college kids.......
I love America.
Here's Simply Google (all things google). Don't forget Google Labs to see what is coming. The newest is Google Calendar.
I like Soople too.
Yeah right. What the heck is next with them? We're obsessed with Google Earth (I know that's like SO January 2006...).
Oh, and I tagged you for a meme, busymom. Happy Easter!
Oooooooooooo very scared about neverending Google access! Pretty soon we'll just imbed a chip in our heads and have constant Google connection....
Here's a question: what does one text message busy mom about?
My husband's company:
http://www.upsnap.com/index.htm
has offered this for awhile now, along with FREE 411.
I've been using Google SMS for a while now and I love it. It is convenient because you can get addresses, phone numbers, weather, all kinds of things.
Google has applied for a patent on wireless connectivity. It's an old concept that we have all discussed before. You are walking down the street and the don't walk sign lights up to remind you that the grocery is two blocks away and you need eggs. While walking in front of the television repair store one of the tvs automatically shows you an update to a news article you are following. Your wrist watch tells you that your favorite author's new book is available right as you walk past the book store.
Google will do this soon. As your wireless device ( a palm, a cell phone, a laptop, sunglasses with microscreen imbedded, whatever ) picks up a signal, Google (which will be providing the access for free) will also beam you an advertisement specific to the area you are walking through and that is targetted to your likes.
So if you are walking past a grocery, your ad won't be "Come into the store" but will be "Busy Mom! You like Folgers and we have it on sale for the next 15 minutes. Press 1 on your cell phone to have it automatically charged to your phone bill. Press 2 if you would like your Folgers automatically delivered to your house for a small fee."
I'm growing concerned that Google may actually be the antichrist.
So I could have used my cell phone to Google "heart attack symptoms" the other day? That really could come in handy . . .
This is actually not a new concept and has been around for a while. Other search engines actually offer this service as well.
I'm just sayin'
Fortunately for me, my "phone" (which is actually a PocketPC), has a full web browser.
or you can use 1-800-FREE-411
it's cool & it's free!
4INFO (shortcode 44636) has a similar mobile search text message offering, but provides several additional services that Google does not: text alerts (sports, weather, stocks), fantasy stats ("kobe bryant" "jaromir jagr"), flight times ("swa san jose san diego") and a beta version of mobile download search. All these services can be accessed via SMS (44636), WAP at http://wap.4INFO.net , or at http://www.4INFO.net.
Why 4INFO instead of Google?
“When asked recently for the address of a trendy downtown Manhattan club called Butter, both 4INFO and Yahoo! located it on the first try. But Google sent back results better suited to baking.”
