Hand her the law school applications. The kids got interim report cards today. Though she makes good grades, for years we have been struggling to get Busy Girl to understand that all of her school work matters, and, that's it's important to do your best work on everything. The past couple of report cards, she's missed the next highest grade by one point in 2-3 areas. I was trying to make the point that if she had paid a little more attention to even one test question, that might have made the difference in her grade.
Me: "Look here, this one is just one point from a higher grade."
Busy Girl: "Mom, every grade is just one point from a higher grade."

Let's DON'T introduce her and Finn. They'd have ALL the answers.
Law school applications, indeed!
Good one Busy Girl. :)
She got you.
Don't you hate it when kids outsmart you? :)
Now that sounds like the type of answer my oldest would give me!
Something tells me the next couple of years could be very, very challenging for you. ;)

I'm thinking your daughter's going to do just fine!
It is a little funny. As my kids get older I realize that a quality that is really great as an adult in the business world is hard to take in a child. You want to encourage it and love to see it but you don't want it used on you.
Ha!! Gotta love that logic!
Oh, she's a smart one!
I hate it when the kids are right.
That makes about as much sense as what my 11 year old said (about the suspenseful cliffhanger of a tv show) "When something is going to happen, something always happens!"
Oh Busymom, don't sweat this one. My teenager flunked English last year because she is allergic to homework. She had to go to summer school 4 hours a day for two weeks. I think it cost me around $150. She loved it. She was the smartest kid there and she "didn't have to do much" to pass. Now she's contemplating whether she would rather do a research paper or go ahead and flunk and go to summer school this which would be a smaller investment of time for her than actually doing the paper.
Yes, I am oh so proud.
Law School is right!
She "silenced" you with a half-truth.
Every grade IS one point from a higher grade...
EXCEPT 100%
:)
Now that is a smarty pants! Too cute! =)
So true! That Busy Girl is a smart one.
LOL. She sounds pretty darn bright to me!
She's quick!
i'm sure your witty response was as well put as her answer.... right? :D
That's it!
The girl is ready to run for office. Will it be the Senate or House of Representatives?
i remember growing up i'd bring the report card home, and have say a C in math. I'd always tell me dad: "It was one point from a B". Thinking that this made it better....instead, the opposite occured. He would always respond: "Well, if you would have just worked a tiny bit harder, or studied a little bit longer, or not watched TV for a night....you might have earned it".
I aways hated it....

My 14 year old son makes all these grandiose excuses for getting an F in Band on his "Progress Report" that came home this week. (He has all A's and a B in everything else)
"She [band teacher] says I missed a required rehearsal. I didn't know about it." Yeah, son, I'm sure she made it allll up because she is out to get you!!!
I still find it hard to believe that I am the parent and have to give these lectures....how can this be? I was the 8th grader just a .....few......years ago!
Smart kid! Definitely college material :)
