Mosquito Repellent

I'm sitting outside watching Busy Dad spray Mosquito Barrier, so I thought I'd share it with you.

We have an awful (as in, really bad) mosquito problem since we live near the river. This stuff is great. It's a concentrated garlic liquid that you mix with water and oil in a sprayer. It gets rid of the bugs on contact and it lasts several weeks. The smell is gone after just a few hours. It looks sort of pricey, but, a bottle often lasts more than one summer. It's safe for kids and pets, and, if you time it right, people will think you've been cooking.

We might have to try that since we have many uninvited guests (mosquitos) in our back yard.. And I am especially interested in the bonus cooking aroma feature.

Thanks for the tip I will have to give it a shot.

OK, I got a question that you may not be readily able to answer (but that won't stop me from asking). How big an issue are "Tiger Mosquitos" in your area?

The Mosquito Repellant "pads" that we currently use work fantastically on everything EXCEPT those darn Tiger Mosquitos.

They are apparenly also immune to falling for regular traps such as the (expensive) Propane based mosquito traps... so I am just wondering.

Thanks for this tip... I'd never heard of it. Our neighbors just put in a pond and I fully expect a mosquito invasion real soon.

my sister uses that stuff and swears it works great. i can't get over the garlic smell, though. but it might be worth it.....

Hmmm...good to know. For some reason, although we are in a totally different area of town and not really near any water, we have awful mosquito problems. Maybe we'll have to give this stuff a try. It would be nice to actually use the yard once in a while.

As to the effectiveness of propane mosquito killing machines on a particular type of mosquito, I read a review that said the different brands have very different levels of effectiveness on the different varieties of mosquitos. It's due to the different chemicals they use in the attractant pads. If yours isn't working, you might want to try using pads for another brand.
The differences were amazing. Brand X pulled in something like 90+% of one variety and Brand Y did 90+% of another variety. Based on where you lived, one machine would be amazingly effective and the other would be hardly noticeable.
