I feel so free

I never thought I could do it. I naively thought things would right themselves in time, but they didn't. I have needed to do it for some time now, but, I just couldn't bring myself to go through with it.

Until now.

We did that a few months ago. It sure was nice to discover all that free space in our drawer.

This is sooooooo something I need to do! Perhaps I'll be inspired later today if I read this again!

How liberating! :-)

Omg! I just did that this week too. Now I can open the lazy susan without something flying out at me. So very nice.

Whee! Maybe you can come over here next and pry mine from my clutches!

Now take a deep breath. You deserve it!

You are a role model for all of us, BusyMom!

I have often wondered about this. Do you suppose the clothes dryer eats storage jars and lids as well as socks?

I hope that your post gives me the will to do the same.

Yeah I need to do that one of these days. I'm running out of drawer space.

And in so doing, did you throw away all those socks that had lost their mates?

Holy crap! I must get off my butt and chuck all my duds...just don't have the strength to deal with it *chuckle*

Me too me too!!!! It was an amazing feeling. And now I have more room to go buy new containers... Does Target still carry Tupperware?!?!

Must. find. out.

I just did this a couple of weeks ago, and it's so liberating. Of course it also meant going out and buying MORE plastic containers that have covers that fit, but we won't mention that!

It just cracks me up everytime I open the plastics drawer and the bowls come tumbling out at me.... Sister hates PMS week because if I open it and one falls out, I throw a BIG OLE TEMPER TANTRUM and dump them all on the floor and she has to clean them up.

It's her job to empty the dishwasher. Maybe she should toss some of them!

LOL... oh man... that's on my to-do list, right after I throw out all the socks that don't have mates.

Haven't stopped by in awhile so I'm happy to be back!

We did this several weeks ago, and I just couldn't stand to part with them so we put them into a cardboard box on the counter.... "just in case".

Finally a week later, I came home to a boxless countertop on trash day. I didn't even get to say "goodbye"! *sniffI*

What a coincidence! I did the same thing on Friday.

I also cleaned out my silverware drawer and threw out all the gadgets I hadn't touched for two or three years. I couldn't even remember what many of them were for!

Yay for purging!

and still balance eight goblets with a smile.

Oh, yay for you! Next step - getting rid of all the socks without mates that you've been thinking "at the very least we could make puppets with them". Step after that - throwing away the stray batteries you keep meaning to test to see if they work.

You know what? I'M GONNA DO IT, TOO!

Thank you for setting me free.

Can I hire you? Happy anniversary too!!

NO WAIT, I have the missing top/bottoms.

But....but.....but...what if you find the mates???? What then? Will you throw those out too?? How did you allow yourself to do that? You are my HERO, Busy Mom.

Actually, I did that just before this last move. AND took care of the socks, as well. It's like a whole new world!

Congratulations!! Thats' one of those 'gotta do it occassionally' jobs. Like weeding out the closet of clothes you haven't worn for more than a year. Don't forget to put that on your to do list!

Good for you! The best I could bring myself to do was to put them in the cellar! :)

And you've been tagged in the infamous BlogHer Blog Me interview festival.

No pressure, it's just been fun for those of us who've done it so far, and I know people want to know more about you! I won't be checking back to see if you play along and getting my feelings hurt if you don't, I promise!

Not to one up you or anything, but we also threw out all the platic cups and plates accumulated from where ever and replaced them with a nice matching set of shiek plastic cups. No more arguments over who gets the barbie cup.

GAH!

What? Do you know how WASTEFUL that is?

What you should have done is mailed them to somebody else, so they could see if they somehow found the mates. They can keep what matches, and mail the rest (and THEIR mismatched stuff) to some other friend.

Eventually, kharma will come through and we'll all have perfectly matched rubbermaids. AND we'll keep the postal service in business for another year or two.

I really have to do that too! I have so many lids floating around that I just keep piling up.

Congrats. Now you're ready for new storage ware. At least, that's the way it works in our house. Free storage doesn't seem to stay free very long.

I have tagged you for BlogHer's "BlogMe."

I can't wait to read your answers!

Shannon

How melodramatic.

It must have been a weekend thing because while hubby was out of town and step kids gone back home I de-cluttered a lot of the house. I threw away a slew of pens that hubby picks up (if it is free he will take almost anything!) I cleaned out my closet last night and threw out all metal hangers and some really bad fashions, too. I did find my missing scissors.

WTG! I did that once, but for some reason (and she's almost two now), I'm in the same predicament again with no time to do anything about it.

Are you having the shakes? Are you ok?lol
I can never bring myself to do this,I always think I'll find the mate one day.

I am so proud of you. Next thing you know, you will be throwing out tiny end pieces of wrapping paper, unmatched socks, and expired things from the medicine cabinet!

We think we have a lid stealer at our house, because we can always find a container and never a lid for it. Maybe you had some of ours?

Posted by: Tom | July 17, 2006 2:07 PM

You brave, brave woman!!

I'm trying to work up my nerve to throw out the ones that have lids but are pitted and/or stained. Sure, they work fine, but how appetizing is it to eat leftovers out of them?

Isn't it liberating? I have been planning on doing the very same thing for the last 2 weeks. You've inspired me. I promise I will do it this week!!

Isn't it wonderful! I bet you feel a ton of weight lifted from your kitchen!

I did this a few mths ago...b4 school ended. Put them all in trash bag outside back door. My children conviscated the containers to play in the creek with.

So they r gone from my cupboard and kitchen....but not forgotten! :)

Afterall you are busymom, it must be like a battle for you to sort out things and so you must ve left everythings on time...................sorry to say but that's more of a lazymom than busymom.

I'm sorry to say I haven't been here in a while, so I was glad that Suebob linked to you at Linkateria. We did the great storage container purge when we moved, and filled a whole kitchen trash bag full.

Next, I want to get some of the new Rubbermaid containers that fold completely flat, have you seen those at Target? They cost around three dollars apiece.

I did this last year and haven't looked back! And just a few weeks ago, I cleaned out my MIL's cupboard full of mostly-mismatched pieces of plastic storage ware! For a minute I think she couldn't believe I did it, but then I think she was happy. I mean, SHE was the one who just the previous day was saying she couldn't stand it because she could never find the lid to go with a container...

A great followup to this liberating act is to go buy yourself new, matching container! I buy the disposable kind... two sizes of square containers that use the same lid. They all stack into one stack (tall ones on the bottom, small ones on top) and any lid I pull out will fit. And when a container gets all crapped up with tomato sauce (or grows an experiement in the fridge) -- it gets the boot with no guilt because it was meant to be disposed of!

Hi all, I need help. Our family computer is running like a slug. It takes forever to startup and open programs and the hard drive activity light is always on. It also uses up a lot of RAM for some reason but the CPU usage is normal. I have another hard drive that is in a removable tray that I use, and that has all the same settings and everything, but that one is using a fraction of the RAM and runs pretty good! Please help! ?
