In addition to afghans (and quilts, did I remember to tell you the quilts are rivaling the afghans now? A cleaning of the closet in the guest bathroom at my parents house yielded three hand-made quilts to go with the 4-5 I have from Busy Dad's family), as an only child, I inherited my father when my mother died last month.
As you may recall, he was having back problems right about the time my mother died. He got better, but, apparently they have come back in the past week or so. He called me at work yesterday, which you know never yields anything good for my intestines.
Busy Papa (a teacher and an intelligent fellow): "Blah..blah..blah..call lawyer about the will...blah...blah...blah....Oh, and I made an appointment with the back doctor."
Me: "What's going on?"
Busy Papa: "My back's bothering me again and I can't feel my feet."
Me: "Oookaaayyy...how long has this been going on?"
Busy Papa: "Oh, I'd say for about 10 days." (Mind you, I have seen him about half of the days in this period and he hasn't mentioned it)
Me: "When is the appointment?"
Busy Papa: "Next Thursday."
Me: "Perhaps you might, you know, need your feet before then?"
Busy Papa: "Well, maybe. I have fallen flat on my face twice."
Me: "Why don't you call them back and get an appointment sooner than next Thursday?"
Busy Papa: "I'll think about it."
Me: "As long as by, 'I'll think about it', you mean, "I'll call right away' "
Thanks, Mom.
(P.S. He's getting an MRI today)

Eeekk!!! Why are men so damn stubborn!?? My hubby is nearly 50, and hasn't had a physical his entire LIFE??!!
Well - at least he didn't ask for a random Disney movie too ;)
Hope everything goes well - keep us posted.
Poor Busy Papa! There, now I feel better for laughing at him.
*sigh* Raising parents these days can be hard.
Ugh. I'm glad you convinced him to call back on that!
Hope its nothing too serious.
I hope everything is okay. And I'm so sorry about your mom. It sucks when you haven't been on the internet for over a month.
Oh my. My dear friend and co-worker experienced this VERY same scenario with her husband. Went to the back doctor who said it wasn't is back at all. It was vascular! Not trying to alarm you but he ended up having bypass surgery. She's been home with him this week playing nurse. Apparently he's not a very good patient.
Hey thats a typical man. Check out my post from today about my latest sickness.
Ok, I am right there with you.... When did I become the parent and my father become the child?
Why do men all seem to respond in the same way? Ignore it till it can no longer be ignored? Hope everything's OK with him.
Let us know - praying for him and YOU!
awwwww.. I bet he feels lost without your mom there. I hope he got an appointment sooner.
I hope everything is okay!
*HUGS* Have a good weekend girlie!
Oh dear. Hugs to you AND to busy papa!
Kim is always bugging me about getting to the doctor when I don't feel right. I've been having tight muscles in my shoulders, which is uber painful, but I just don't see why I should go to the doctor for it. He's just going to say to use a heating pad or some ointment, which I haven't done. Um, Ok, I'll go to the doctor. I so hate it when wives are right.
How about a man who *is* a doctor but won't *go* to the the doctor. Brilliant right? He won't go to the dentist either ...
Oy! Men!
Diabetes? I know my dad has problems with his legs as a result of it... Hoping all checks out fine..
Oh I feel your pain. It took all three of us girls to drag mom to the ER this weekend because apparently 3 days of abdominal pain and bleeding "down there" when you cough, while on Coumadin, no less, does not qualify as an emergency in her book of insane parental behavior. Ay!
I am parenting at both ends as well ... as a Grandma. But things are reasonably in order with support systems in place. I wonder what the answers are ... Forward with as much grace as possible I guess. Women are so very strong. xo Barbara www.shandarrah.com
