My life is easyThis made me cry. I sure hope it makes news when the NCAA figures out a way for them to accept donations.

oh what a great article! fantastic brothering going on there.
Oh my. Thanks for the reminder of how lucky I am.
One day, there won't be so much red tape to get through to be able to use common sense when it comes to discerning the difference between, "Hey, let's help this guy feed and care for his brother," and, "Hey, let's throw another new sports car and cash at this primadonna."
What's that? Oh, you're right, that day probably won't come. But thanks for sharing the story! I wonder if it violates the rules if people from the community, and not just the school, offer assistance?
I know! My husband told me about this a few days ago. Makes my blood boil! I mean seriously can't those NCAA people see the difference between pampering a player and being responsible for your family!!! I don't understand why it's taking them so long to grant that waiver. Ridiculous!
Excuse me while I go get a tissue to wipe my eyes and blow my nose.
I suspect the NCAA is getting barraged with requests for a waiver now that the story is in the national press.
Great article. Maybe he should drop the scholarship and then accept donations - might be more than the scholarship is worth.
Like malia above, the story is great, but the part about the NCAA is just plain maddening. They are "working" on something? Fine, keep it as a work in progress, but don't just leave the poor kid hanging out to dry while you dot your eyes and cross your political T's.
Why can't people donate to the little brother? Then it would not violate NCAA anything, and would help the brothers both.
I agree with New Orleans Friend. If it was a donation to the little brother, it shouldn't bother the NCAA.
Hi, I occasionally swing by and don't usually comment, being simply content to read your wonderful posts, but this story really moved me.
Thank you so much for bringing this up. It's awesome to hear of things like that.
Man, it is guys like that that give NCAA sports a good name. I wish we heard more stories like these instead of who was busted for marijuana or which coach lied about some insignificant issue.
new orleans friend and Carolyn,
Unfortunately, NCAA rules DO cover his brother... and any other "immediate" family members. Why? You don't have to go that far back (last year) to a case where the agent basically bought the kid's parents a house. Agents have pulled many stunts like this over the years, so the rules are very "encompassing" to ensure there are no back doors, but in this case, it is to the detriment of the situation which should be clear.
