If you are going to tell an untruth regarding your whereabouts, it is usally best to develop one story and stick to it, rather than customizing versions for each person you encounter.

Particular notice should be paid when telling directly conflicting versions to two people who will subsequently be spending all day together.

Good advise. I seem to remember trying this boneheaded move with my parents (back when I was an unruly lad), and it not going all that well. Apparently I overlooked the fact that they may actually talk to one another ;)
