The weather is getting cooler around these parts, at least for the moment anyway.
Colder weather brings out two types of people: the Lip Balm and Hand Lotioners and the Not Lip Balm and Hand Lotioners.
Now, I'm not talking about the occasional or physician directed users of said products, they are made for a reason. I'm talking about the people who, from about October to May spend a goodly percentage of their waking hours chronically putting on lip balm and looking for hand lotion.
These folks go to great lengths to have their products of choice available at all times. Products are stashed in the kicthen, the den, the bathroom, the car, the purse, the desk, the diaper bag and many points in between.
Statements such as, "Are you ready to go?", are often met with, "Yeah, hold on a minute", followed by the franctic rustling through a desk drawer or the contents of a purse, resulting in wafting of a distinct cocoa, strawberry or whatever the scent o' the day is.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
I mean, some of my best friends are chronic Lip Balmers and Hand Lotioners, it's just that I am a Not Lip Balmer and Hand Lotioner, and, I can't always relate.
However, I am in a different kind of cold weather person category : I am a Static Electricity Magnet.
Shocking, I know.

I am a little embarassed to admit that while your page was loading, I got up from the table and put on some lip balm. BEFORE I saw your post.
Now I need some hand lotion. I'm sure there's some right here . . .
I used to always be annoyed by the lip balm/hand lotion types. Then I developed that painful, cracking chapping that they'd always gone on about, and I now find myself constantly in need of the balm/lotion, too. But I don't want to talk about it or slow anyone down in my need to ALWAYS HAVE MOISTURIZING SUBSTANCES AT HAND! ALWAYS! I don't want to be THAT balm/lotion person. Of course, perhaps I'm just a self-loathing balm/lotion person. I dunno.
First of all, I can't even keep up with hand lotion or lip balm around here, much less remember to put it on. I, too, have an electric personality. However, this time of year gives me a chance to showcase my shoes-without-socks-or-other-coverage preference. I get some weird looks. I'm just not a sock girl.
My name is cursingmama and I'm a lip balm/lotioner addict. I admit to the stashing and maybe the freaking out if my products of choice are unavailable. I would love to blame this on the weather (hello winter) however it is a problem for my family 12 months of the year.
Now pass the lip balm I feel dry!
there's an ad for a porn book in your sidebar.
Perv.
funny, with winter fast approaching I have lip balm in all my jacket/coat pockets ready and avilable when my lips start to tingle...should I lick my lips....they might feel better, no they'll get chapped ....the fear of dry bright red painful cracks around and on my lips...it hurts and looks sooooooooooo bad...lo and behold lip balm to the rescue. ..I have tried so many ....scent or no scent...chap stick from CVS or the lavender shea butter from L'occitane enprovence ..a gift to my lips to stay smooth and feel good...my favorite...not sure I have one, I like variety....what about you....
don't get me started on hand cream...that's another story.... this is my first response to a blog....so exciting!

I actually prefer vaseline to chapstick but chapstick is so much more convenient. I have a long history of moisturizing addiction and have a membership at Costco so I can buy my Curel lotion at a deep discount. But I'm just high maintenance in general.
Which, no doubt, is why your husband and children so cling to you....
Last count of lip balm in my purse: 6
And that doesn't count all the other tubes scattered about.
Yes, I am one of THOSE.
(And the last two lines? so so clever!)
I've been a lip balm addict since college. I panic if I find myself without some -my lips instantly shrivel into crepe paper and I can barely stand it. Lotion - not so much. Lip Balm and Kleenex - don't leave home without them. Ever.
Oh man, you found me out. I'm a lip balm and hand lotion person. I never thought I was an outlaw for my chapstick addition, but I must admit I have one in the pencil drawers behind my desk, one in my car, and one in my backpack at all times. And I keep a tube of vaseline on my nightable because I need to really lube up those lips at night. Otherwise, they crack and bleed.
Hand lotion? On my nightable, one bottle of Sarna for itchy skin, one bottle of Lubederm for dry skin. In the downstairs bathroom, one bottle of Lubiderm moisterizer with sunscreen for dry winter face. In my backpack? One tube of Eucerin lotion for my skin on the go. Next to my desk? One pump bottle of Lubiderm lotion.
I evidentally need an intervention. Please help me.
I'm exactly like you! I use lip balm and lotion on occasion, but I'm not an addict.
And I conduct a lot of static electricity too! Maybe if we were more moisturized we wouldn't be shocking everything in sight.
Oh, the shame. You outted me. My balm of choice- Aquaphor. I love the stuff. I've given up lip balm all together. Why have 2 products, when 1 does the job of both?? Especially now that we moved to Colorado, we need the Aquaphor.
It is my kids I feel sorry for, really. I'm constantly jumping on them with the tube of goo. My 3 year old says Aquaphor like it is the name of a superhero. Kind of cute, huh?
Love ya!
I hate the winter for all the shocking. I'm actually afraid to touch the car door when I get out b/c I often SEE the shock that it makes. Ouch! I do hate that fact of winter. Blah. Maybe it would help if I had a little lotion on my hands.
I just stocked up!
I am TOTALLY a lip balm/hand lotioner! Love your blog!
My wife turned my daugher into a Chap-Stick-a-holic (and other brands as well). Unfortunately, I sometimes feed into it too by buying her new fun flavors that I find.
Last count though, she has some 2 dozen sticks between her various "purses" not not mention the Princess Branded ones, which are the only ones allowed in her Princess Vanity (must be all pink, ya know)
I'm a chronic lip balmer all year round. My sister is so static electrified she can make your hair stand on end. Seriously, she won't open a door herself; she stands around and waits for someone else to go in first and open it for her.
I'm a year round lip balm-er as well.
Help me, I need an intervention.
Have you been following me around? Your post is ME! Except you forgot the part when I find lip balm in the dryer. That happens at least 2 to 3 times during the season. great post!
I don't think this is a California "thing" - rarely do I see folks using lip balm. But when I lived back east and tried to survive the bitter winters, it was a lip balm frenzy! And do you remember susie chapstick gliding down the mountain with her lip balm? Ok, now I am dating myself!
It got pretty chilly here today and I'm all staticky with flyaway hair and all. Do you have any tips for fighting static?
Oh and someone sign me up for the lip balm intervention. I think if you can't sleep without it, one is definitely warranted.
No wonder the sparks fly when I get close to any type of vehicle!
