Killing me not as much

My dad called me from his cell phone just now and had to leave a message (I was on the other line). I knew he had a doctor's appointment today.

He started out his usual way: "Busy Mom?"

But, the earth just became a happier place for me when the next line was, "It's not urgent, I just have a question."

And the angels sang.

I can hear them -
I find it funny that he starts his message the same way our high school counselor starts his..... maybe ironic is a better word since there is never any mention of a "question".

My grandma never got the hang of answering machines. She'd always say, "Well, hello. This is Pat. Just tell everybody I called."

Well there you have it. Proof you CAN teach an old dad new tricks.

you've trained him well! Or maybe he just read so many of your posts that he finally caught on!

My parents are mercifully sparse phone users - to the point I wonder sometimes if I've offended them somehow!

The mother-in-law on the other hand makes me want to hop in a time machine and take out Alexander Graham Bell before he invents the telephone!

I desperately want to ask her whether it was worth interrupting a conversation we were having because toilet roll is on special offer in the supermarket....grrrr...

oh, amen amen. And I love that he calls you "busy mom." :: cough :: :-)

I love your dad's cell phone stories.

OOhhhh, it is clear that he loves you!

Ya know, I never really paid much attention to it until you brought this matter up, but my mother has that same... uh... mannerism.

Well, not exactly, she doesn't have a cell phone. Simply refuses to... It is an "old person" thing to her, and she just doesn't "get" technology like a phone you can bring with you.

But anyway, whenever she leaves a message, she sounds like the world is coming to an end, whether it is something serious... or she just felt like updating me on what the neighbors are doing. And for some reason, only over the phone mind you, she always sounds angry.

I somehow have to get her to leave a message in a way, so that every message doesn't sound so dire.

Congrats on getting your dad trained.

Any tips?
