Waking up habits

Wow, ya'll are as odd as I am! I even got a new sibling out of that post. Thanks!

Hey, sis, can I borrow your new jeans?

Since we talked about going to sleep habits, what about some waking up habits?

Risking yet again that you may find me stranger than you imagined:

1. I can usually wake up at the designated time without an alarm clock.

2. I can't get out of the bed until I've gone over the day in my mind. However, while I do that planning, it looks a lot like I went back to sleep, but, I usually don't.

3. Until fairly recently, caffeine consumption at night never bothered me.

4. I don't like noise (TV, radio, children talking etc.) until after I am dressed and ready to go. Except when I am traveling alone. If I'm in a hotel, I have to turn on the local news before I get in the shower.

5. I make the bed in the morning while I'm still in it. I pull up the covers, and, make sure they're spread out properly before I get out of bed. That way, when I stand up the bed is made after only minor adjustments.

lol! I love the "making the bed while i'm still in it" habit. my only quirky waking up habit that i can think of is that if someone is waking me up, i hate for them to wake me up with anything other than "good morning!" (i.e. no "hurry up! we' re late!" or "where is the new box of cream of wheat?!") Please say "good morning" first. Happy Friday.

J. Fergie, I'm with you on "good morning", with one exception. When my daughter was a toddler, she'd wander into our room on Saturday morning, and if I wasn't up, she'd "manually" open one of my eyes. It was annoying, but at the same time, adorable. I miss those days.

B-Mo, everything about my waking habits revolves around my severe addiction to caffeine. Although #1 is no problem for me, I can't do #2 or #5 UNTIL I've had my morning cups. My body may be awake, but my brain simply will not work.

Number 3 is a big one. When I worked night shift, I drank a LOT of coffee. So much so that I had to cut myself off at 3am, or I wouldn't sleep when I got home. When I got my current cushy day job, I just turned it around. No coffee after 3pm.

Number 4 made me giggle. I, too, have to turn on the local news first thing in a hotel. (And it can't be Fox or CNN, it HAS to be the local news)

Oohhh....Bald Man does that "making the bed" thing, which is really annoying when I'm still in it. :)

I can not get up with the first alarm, even if I am awake I have to put the alarm on snooze and wait for the second alarm.

No alarm clock for me either. And I prefer no talking until I'm fully awake... give me at least 20 minutes, please.

My oddities:

1. I can STILL drink coffee (or espresso) and immediately fall asleep.

2. Thinking does not occur until after coffee in the morning.

3. I am a "happy" morning person (which drives many people including my wife nuts).

4. If I sleep more than 7-1/2 hours a night, I will usually feel ill when I do get up.

My wake-up call for the last few months (on the mornings when I don't set an alarm because I don't need to be anywhere) has been a foot to the head by my 3 year old. Very enchanting. I am not a morning person, and I generally am not functional until there is food in my mouth to get my blood sugar jump-started.

I usually can get up without an alarm clock too, but not so much lately. I wonder what's up with that. And making the bed while i'm still in it sounds good, if it weren't for the cute little 27 lb turkey that sleeps with me.

See I'm an alarmist - the alarm (on my cell phone because I'm too cheap to buy a clock) goes off, I hit the snooze whether I'm awake or not, and then I lie there waiting on the second alarm. When the second one goes off, I contemplate getting out of bed for precisely 2 minutes (yes, every day) and then jump up, rip-raring to go.

Since I'm "retired" I do not set an alarm most days. On the occasional days that I DO have to wake to an alarm, I can't get to sleep---which I hate. Once said alarm goes off (and I had usually already awakened about a minute or two before it goes off) I must hit the snooze. As soon as I hit it, I fall asleep. Why can't I sleep like that when I am supposed to???

I am not fully awake until I have had my shower. I get out of bed and immediately stagger to the bathroom to take my shower. Mainly because no one wants to talk to me before the shower happens. Too grumpy and too incoherent.

!
I tried to do that Martha Stewart "Make Your Bed While You Are In It" thing, I pulled a muscle in my inner thigh!

Please Master, tell us how Martha *really* accomplishes this?

No wierd waking up thingy, except, I usually wake up precisely 2 minutes before the alarm. Doesn't matter haow much or little sleep I've had, I'm awake 2 minutes beofre the alarm goes off. Also, must have coffee immediately. After that, all is well.

wow Biz, you are a freak! All these good tidbits I never knew even after as many times as we've stayed there!

As for 1) alarm clocks - a must have - otherwise, I'd sleep til 2 pm.
2) making the bed. What does that mean?
3) morning talking. It happens too much as in "GET OUT OF BED NOWWWWWW!!!"
4) I do not do the coffee thing. Just the Lexapro thing! ; )

I haven't had to set an alarm clock in almost 3 years, due to our little human alarm, who typically goes off around 6/6:30.

Am I the only one minorly grossed out by the bed-making while you're in it thing? At our house, there's sometimes perspiration and/or passing of gas between the sheets during the overnight, so I have a thing about letting it "air out" before it's all made up. There you go... a freakish little quirk of a different variety!

Making the bed was the first thing to go when I started getting "swamped with life". I've learned to live with a jumble of covers. Sigh.... but on the bright side, I gained an extra 5 minutes each day!
