Judging by the volumes of people in Walgreen's tonight, I'd venture to say that there is a large percentage of the population, should they choose to celebrate it, who do not plan ahead for Valentine's Day.
I'm not one of those "Valentine's Day is a manufactured capitalist pig invention and we should protest" people, or anything, but, I don't knock myself out for it, either.
However, I will admit that I've gotten much better about getting the kids' classroom Valentines ahead of time. I've been "that mother" on the evening of February 13th (more than once) who is trying to convince her young daughter that the anime NASCAR Valentines are "really cool".
I have also been that mother who forgot her power cord and whose laptop battery is getting ready to run out before she finishes posting anything.
Happy Valentine's Day, dammit.

awwww I so feel the love! Happy V-day!!!!
Love means never having to recharge in the dark.
Alternately, you could be the mother who bought Valentine's candy last weekend, only to eat all of the sweet tart hearts herself and to find that the object of her affection has eaten all the Reese's hearts, and who now will have to stop by the store the morning of Valentine's day, after working all night AND getting caught in the rain before going in to work.
What's wrong with anime Nascar Valentines? ;)
Hppy Valentines Day, Dammit.
I scored some Barbie theme Valentine's at the Dollar Tree about a month ago. Yee haw! Of course I didn't formerly address them until last night. I can't be ahead of the game all the time. Sheesh.
Years ago, after many Valentine eves spent searching for non-lame prefab Valentines (oxymoron?) for my twins (now 17), I gave up and helped my kindergartener make Valentines out of construction paper (the old-fashioned way). She is now in 5th grade, and last night we took glue sticks in hand and made 22 handmade lame Valentines in about the time I would have spent in the crowded store aisles. AND everyone thinks I'm an Earth Mother/Craft Woman when I'm really a Scrooge-like Procrastinator! Happy Valentine's Day! -Jane
Oh yes, trying to convince your son that the cute furry animal valentines cards will totally impress his friends and not just because they are the only cards left in the store and well something is better than nothing, right? Procrastination, my middle (and sometimes my first) name.
