Scout - 1990-2007

I guess there was a reason Busy Boy was sick yesterday, and, Busy Dad was home.

Our 17 year old dog died yesterday afternoon, and, Busy Dad got to be with her.

Good dog, Scout.

Awww... condolences to your family. It is hard to lose someone who has been with you, wow, 17 years.

I'm so sorry...losing a pet is pretty hard. We lost two last year - both old doggies, but it is still hard to see them go.

Rest easy, Scout.

I'm so sorry.

I'm sorry about your dog. Gave Scout a good life. It's something I'm thinking about a lot myself these days. But Emerson's not done yet. :)

I love dogs.

I'm so very, very sorry to hear this. My dogs are my kids and this is just sad.

So sorry, Busy Family...

I'm glad he was there with your dog. Rest in peace, Scout.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I'm glad your husband was there with her. So sad.

RIP Scout.

I am sorry for your loss. I know that losing our pooch would be devastating. He is our baby.

Sorry to hear that! Condolences to the Busy Family!
:(

All dogs go to Heaven, Busy Mom. I'm so sorry for your loss. Dogs are family and looks like she was your "firstborn". So glad Busy Dad was able to be with her.

We are getting a dog in May (mostly for our big time animal lover son who will turn 9) and this is the only thing I'm worried about is how much everyone will love the dog and how hard it will be when they die. 17 years, that is amazing...so many years you got to have!

Oh, it is so hard to lose an old friend. My thoughts are will you. Did he just "go" on his own? IF so, how nice of him, that kept you guys from having to make a very, very tough decision.

oh :(
I don't know how to make tears - but I can send you
(((hugs)))

How blessed you were to have such a good little friend all these years. It's so hard to say goodbye to them though....love to you all.

I'm so sorry to hear about losing your good friend. We have two dogs and they were our first "babies."

oh, I am so sorry. our thoughts are with you

I'm glad you had so long with her and that Busy Dad was there at the end. My condolences to the whole Busy Family; it's never easy to lose a pet.

I'm sorry to hear about your dog, Scout. Last week we had to put down our beloved cat, Pete, due to a sudden illness. Pete was 8 years old, weighed in at 22 pounds, and was everybody's best friend. My two kids were so upset the day it happened that I kept them home from school. Anyway, from one pet-lover to another, I know how hard it is to lose a pet. My thoughts are with you and the entire Busy Family.

What a blessing that Scout wasn't alone. I'm so sorry for your loss.

So sorry to hear about Scout...it is so hard to lose a pet. I found a beautiful tribute at www.indigo.org, then click on rainbow bridge...it made me cry, in a good way :)

so sorry, busymom. my first baby was a sweet beagle named Roo.

So sorry to hear about Scout. We had to put down our 13 y-o cocker spaniel in November. I didn't think I would get another dog... ever. Then all of a sudden, I started to "see" a dog in the house. Just out of the corner of my eye. I would be doing dishes and think I would see a puppy curled up over in the corner and I'd turn my head...nothing. Then I would go to step away from something and think I was going to step on a pup underfoot... nothing. Then we did an exhustive search to rescue a Basset Hound (I've always loved that breed) and couldn't. Finally I looked in the paper and there was ONE add for a 6 w-o Basset. Now we have Tallulah Mae our tri-color Basset and I couldn't be happier... not that she will ever replace Chloe, but I think there was a doggie void that I needed to fill. Something about the warmth and comfort they give you...

Anyway, you need to read Dog Heaven by Cynthia Rylant. It's a children's book, but really comforting. It's great for the whole family. I cried my way through it.

Scout will be so happy you read it and so will your family.

My condolences on your loss.

I'm so sorry for your family's loss.

OH, y'all. :-( Sorry to hear.

Man, I'm so sorry. I cried for days weeks when Casey died.

Two things:

First of all, your tone in this blog just breaks me up. I haven't giggled like this for...well, for I don't know how long. Thanks.

Then about Scout: here's my very favorite quote about animals, from Henry Beston's THE OUTERMOST HOUSE. For me, it explains it all:

"[Animals] are not brethren, they are not underlings; they are other nations, caught with ourselves in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners of the splendour and travail of the earth."

Good dog, Scout, indeed.
