It's still colorful, and, plastic, but, it just doesn't speak to meEither I've either already purchased everything there is to purchase, I'm growing up, or, maybe it's just an "off"year, but, I'm underwhelmed by the Colorful Plastic Dinnerware aisle at Target this year.
I'm kind of sad, really.

Sometimes throw-away, no fuss paper plates speak louder than colorful plastic.
lol, that is too funny i feel the same way. Although I thought it was just me being frugal maybe it is me just having everything already!
I used to suffer from the Target Seasonal Disorder myself, but then I discovered Christmas Tree Shops, a New England chain of stores that specialize in seasonal stuff all year round, and the WHOLE STORE is seasonal. It's like Target gone mad. And it's cheaper. CHEAPER. Now I just drive on over to the Tree and satisfy my seasonal angst for a fraction of the price. Life is good.
I think maybe it's because you now have children who can probably all get through their meals without dishes ending up on the floor. With a 2 and 3 year old in the house, and often some of their friends, I'm ready to stock up on a little more plasticware! :D
WHAT? Target has a Colorful Plastic Dinnerware Aisle? Every Spring I stock up on new plastic dishes at Wal-Mart...I didn't know Target had them too! I bet they are EVEN BETTER!
Really! I just bought three little primary red square plastic dishes for snacks! portion control [translation = it's a snack not a whole meal, you're supposed to still be hungry!}
Cheers
I've always been pretty underwhelmed but that aisle
Perhaps because you've finally realized that none of it is microwave safe?
You have got to be kidding me. I didn't think that was possible!
I know what you mean! There's absolutely no compulsion so far this year to run out and buy funky serving trays or anything. I feel so...jaded and cynical.
Check out the ones at the dollar store. We've got like 4 sets we've collected over the years.
I officially gave up the plasticwear a few years ago in favor of more earth friendly choices, like recycled paper plates. But it also had me selecting a set of reusable style plasticwear for outdoors. This has become an issue as every year they seem to come out with a set that I like even more than the set I purchased prior. I have avoided Target thus far this season for fear of finding another new "must have" set.
I think the design renaissance has hit a plateau. There's nothing exciting and new, and some of the stuff is just downright fugly. I am very dissapointed in this season's cocktail napkins as well. I'm serious.
I only occasionally indulge in Target plasticware [I indulge in other things instead], but I almost always covet it.
I just ran to Target at lunch to pick up a prescription that WAS NOT THERE [another story, sigh, will stop being cranky....it's FRIDAY!!] and my review of the 2007 colorful plastic dinnerware line is the same as yours. Blah.
