I get a serious amount of searches for "football pads", probably from where I was bitching about football equipment last year.
Heh, I got one for "ACME Frying Pan", too.
And, what the heck is up with the "rhythmic gymnastics" searches?
Here, now go away.
Anyway, in answer to someone's questions:
- Busy Boy has never had pants with built in pads, don't know anything about them.
- Thigh and knee pads usually slip in the pockets built in the pants.
- The hip and tailbone pads snap into place using the snaps on the inside of the pants.
- Do not be in any type of hurry when you are dealing with these pads.
- I gave up washing the pants unless they are muddy.
- I did put the pads through the delicate cycle in the washer once, they came out fine, but, I took the risk since they didn't belong to us. Your results may vary.
- I've never washed the pants with the pads in, because, well, I just don't care, anymore.
- Ask your coach for help putting your helmet and shoulder pads on, it's crucial that those fit properly.
-Dick's Sporting Goods has a guide to football pads, you should probably be reading there instead of here.
What else can I help you with?

Isn't this the point where Busy Dad steps in to help?
This makes me happy I have only girls. Of course, I have to deal with cheer leading...um I had no idea that there was such a thing as cheer leading shoes. And dance...Lord love a duck...I'm not sure but by the time I bought all the shoes my oldest needs for all of her classes I was close to broke. :)
One piece of advice is to have the guy at the store teach your son how to put the pads in and take them out for washing. Make it clear to son that you will not do it. Buy big container of Febreze because they probably won't get washed.
Better advice: Encourage soccer, which has a much easier uniform.
Best advice: Guitar.
Our boys had to take out their own pads and put them back -- Long Suffering Spouse would wash the pants -- maybe not after every practice -- unless it was particularly muddy.
Oldest Son knew how by instinct. He would. He helped Middle Son when Middle Son started playing football (in 5th grade). Oldest Son was in college when Youngest Son got to 5th grade, but Middle Son helped out with the pads. Now Youngest Son is a freshman and he's pretty good with the pads on his own.
(And, no, I would have been no help to any of them. I never played.)
What can you tell me about the ACME Frying Pan?
I'm sorry. I thought this was the "Hints for Bachelors" link, Heloise cross-reference. Something must have gotten muddled.
Tell me about it!!!! You should do a poll of weirdest search hits. The most common search hit on my blog is "what sound does a donkey make". Apparently I've achieved the first hit on google to that question. I had no idea so many people were asking!!! (SERIOUSLY ... I've probably had more than a hundred hits from people looking for an answer), and unlike you, I don't get much traffic. Poor saps...my post doesn't even answer their question.
OMG-I did a post about the trama of dealing with football pads a few weeks ago and am still getting visitors who googled "how to put in football pads." Of course mine was more of a "don't do it like this (like I did it) or your children will be taunted for having an idiot for a mother."
I know nothing of football pads and the term 'frying pan' rings a bell but I can't quite place what that is either.
But I wanted to stop by and say hello and say thanks, even. And did I mention how fickle I am and how I might reverse my decision several more times before I settle on a final position? Well, that's not true... I'm all settled. At 180 degrees from that place I was when you visited. I did appreciate you adding your voice, though. It meant a lot to me.
you can wash the pads with the pants, girdles uniforms etc....throw it all in..no harm. and I have learned to only wash once a week. otherwise all i would do is play with thigh pads. and that is no where near as thrilling as it sounds
LOL!! I tried to get the pads in this morning after washing the pants, and finally said FORGET IT I'll google it when I get to work! I think I'll wash the whole thing next time. I gotta kick out of this site, though. :-) Oh! and we have a donkey across the street from us- he literally "hee haws" every half hour or so.
