Today is a milestone in more than one way.
I just took my youngest to kindergarten.
(Wails: "Mah Baaaaaaybee!")
That's right, The Not Yet Kindergartener Formerly Known as the Preschooler Formerly Known as Busy Baby is now The Finally Kindergartener Formerly Known as the Preschooler Formerly Known as Busy Baby.
I say "finally" not because I'm ready for him to go, but, because school's been in for four days, and, he hasn't gone yet.
I was running out of ways to explain it to him when he said each morning, "I don't go to school again?"
You see, the first week of kindergarten, they take the kids four at a time, and, due to reverse alphabetical order, "Busy" came last, so he's just going today for the first time.
It's not so bad because he'll get to keep going instead of getting to go one day, and, having to wait several more days before he can go again.
The only downside is that the nap mat selection is down to the dregs, and, he's going to get some weird green color that Lord only knows what it looks like to him (he's colorblind).
So. There you go.
What?
You want to know if I'm really going to call him The Kindergartener Formerly Known as the Preschooler Formerly Known as Busy Baby?
Well, no.
Duh.
People would think it was a fake name or something.
Besides, without a macro, it could get to be a problem when he gets to eighth grade.
So, I guess today's the day he gets a new name.
You guys had some great suggestions, thanks!
I think I'm going to stay away from grade or age related names so we won't have to go through this every year, though.
I mean, when I started writing this stuff, he was 8 months old, it didn't occur to me that I'd still be doing this when he was 5 years old.
So, from here on out, The Kindergartener Formerly Known as the Preschooler Formerly Known as Busy Baby is going to be called:

Congrats Busy D! (perhaps he has a future as a Catholic School Boy Rapper?)
Just wait until you have to peel your adult size booty from those teeny kindergarten booty size chairs. ;)
That name upgrade was WAAAAY overdue.
Plus, now he has his rap star name all ready to go.
I like it, Busy D is a very "grown up" name.
Magnuts had a melt down the week after Kindergarten. When I said, "Now you are going to be my BIG first grade boy..." He looked at me for a second and then yelled, "I HAVE TO GO BAACCKK????" I guess he thought one year of school was enough.
I like it!! Although... I almost wana type Bizzy D for some reason. >.> Hope he likes school, and hope his mom isn't too upset at letting him go back. ~.^
Kind of a silly question, and I'm really just kinda curious since I don't know anyone... how does the color blindness work? Does he see different shades? Or is it like... all black and white? Sorry if this sounds retarded. >.> heh
Congratulations Busy D!
I did not cry when my oldest started kinder last year, but I think I will cry when my youngest starts in 3 years!
Go gettem' Busy D!!!!
I like it- he's all legit like that :-)
I guess I've been reading awhile, since I still remember when he really WAS Busy Baby. Welcome to the blog, Busy D!
Today was Kindergarten orientation - my first - but, boy, I know he's really ready to go! He's a whole head taller than any other kid in his future class. I didn't red shirt him, just has a late birthday. Hope Busy D does well! Reminds me I need to update Preschooler to a new name also - ackk!
Congrats on making it through such a big day!
What a momentous occasion!!!!! Sounds like you should celebrate in a special way tonight.
Busy D...I like it! Woot! :)
For short, can we call him " 'da D"? That really does sound like a future rap star.
I fell you on the "my baby" thing. My oldest started high school last week. Unblieveable.
congratz..i get sad just thinking about my baby going to school in 4 years..boohooo
Busy D seems like an elegant solution. And a rap handle. Make sure his baseball cap stays on straight. And don't let him call it a "lid" either.
My own "B.D." (Beta Daughter) starts kindergarten this year, too! Of course in the Northeast we don't start until after Labor Day....we puritans have to make sure the last of the corn is harvested before we send the young uns' off te learnin'.
Yay, Busy D.!! Can't wait to hear what he thinks about it all. Glad he was anxious to go!
Busy D. needs to update his blog.
What? I'm just sayin'.
Those kindergarten tables ARE small! I remember feeling like a giant in them. I love names with D. My older daughter's boyfriend's name is Daniel(Dan) and my brother's middle name is David.
Yeah! Yeah!
All hail Busy D!
I'm a day late, on this one - go figure - but, congratulations Busy D. and Busy Mom!
Gosh, but they grow up and make us yell, "Maaaaaaaah Baby," so fast! Mini-Me did great in kindergarten, last year and is looking forward to being "a grader," like her siblings.
Me, not so much.
"Busy D" is oddly poetic. It buzzes and rhymes all at once. And you can say it reallyreally fast. Excellent choice.
Busy D. Busy Dude. (He is SO going to become a rapper now. Did you think of that?)
But I am so bummed. Do you REMEMBER how excited I was for your high school naming process. Now? Now it is just Busy D.
I need to go mourn the passing of the name that was too long to expand on past kindergarten.
sounds like a rapper.
word.
Perfect!! He can rap in his spare time and it will all make sense. Now that's he branded you can get him on stage and maybe make enough on him to get that new fridge:)
Busy D. Hmmm. Short, snappy.
It's not "Tim" (or Tom or Fred or whatever the heck I suggested), but it will do.
He'll always be Busy Baby to me.
(As I tell my daughter -- When she's 40 and I'm 80, I'll still call her "my baby.")
