Coq au sweet tater avec Cool Whip fraiche"Tis the night before Thanksgiving American Style, and, though y'all like to pretend you're serious foodies and peruse Gourmet Cooking and Martha Stewart for dignified holiday dishes, I'd just like to note that I'm onto you.
No regular Cool Whip left in the city:

Followed closely by big gaps where the bananas and the Vanilla Wafers should be.
Oh, and the marshmallows and most of the canned sweet potatoes are gone, too.

I'd be beyond upset if the cool whip , cookies and marshmallows went MIA - they should keep extras!
You can have my sweet potatoes, though. Ew. Born and bred in the south, but sorry - I ain't eatin' no sweet tater!
This is my first Thanksgiving in Nashville and I must admit I was puzzled when I saw all of the makings for banana pudding were selling out. Do people eat that at Thanksgiving in the south? Weird.
As for the Cool Whip, I bought mine early. I make real whipped cream for me but my husband actually prefers the cool whip. Go figure.
Cool-Whip!!! I knew I'd forgotten something. My guests will have to eat their pies and puddings plain, I guess.
All of the cool whip, eagle brand, creamed corn, canned cranberries, bananas and vanilla wafers are at my house.
OH SHIT I FORGOT TO BUY WHIP !
I wonder if my city is sold out. At this point, I'll buy a can or tub of what ever I can find. I better get in the shower and run.
Cool whip? It's RediWhip here in Seattle
(and yes, they still had some Wednesday afternoon)

Wishing you and yours a blessed Thanksgiving.
Of all the blogs I read, this is, seriously, the funniest Thanksgiving entry I've come across. I read it this morning, and had to come back again to check it out this evening. Its hysterical!
Ok, I find this very funny.
I can't believe you were even looking at canned sweet potatoes. Love banana pudding, but never thought about it for Thanksgiving. We didn't have a dessert this year, unless you count the sweet potato casserole I made with non-canned sweet potatoes.
I'm about to go to work to take care of the Thanksgiving celebration trauma crowd.
Too funny! We bought RediWhip instead this year, and I cooked real sweet potatoes from scratch. Soooo much better than canned, and yet so easy.
Not to my house they didn't... got that whole Mert Stewart (Martha to city folks, Mert to the folks out in the country) rep. to protect! Besides, Coolwhip isn't even dairy, that's way against my Turkey Day rules. Heck, I even use half & half in the mashed potatoes, and we went through 2 lbs. of butter in the process of cooking our extravaganza! Yes, I know, it's easier to just have someone open your chest and manually stop your heart... but it isn't as much fun!
We went to Walmart to get banana pudding ingredients the night before Thanksgiving and there were NO bananas in the store! My hubby was so sad! That's his favorite dessert but he had to do without this year!
Hilarious. I'd forgotten that about TN (we lived there for 6 yrs).
I'll bet all the bags of pre-made cornbread for stuffing were gone as well.
