Britney Spears' standoff with police and hospitalization

Wow.

Britney Spears holding her kids hostage?

She wouldn't give her kids back to Kevin Federline after visitation, and, was taken by ambulance to the hospital because she was under the influence of something.

There's also some rumor that one of the kids had to go to the hospital, too.

Someone has got to help this girl.

"Involuntary commitment" are the words that come to my mind, but, I only know what I read.

Very, very sad.

ADDED: Waitaminnit..what happened to the court appointed monitor for Britney's visits with her kids?

Maybe I missed something somewhere.

Y'know, the phrase "train wreck" has been horribly overused in all these Britney discussions, but honestly, it's the best description that comes to mind.
I just keep wondering when the train is going to zip past the "bridge out" sign.

So sad, and so stupid at the same time.

No. You have not really missed much. It is all about Britney and her mental illness. There have been so many arrangements made and court appearances that she has missed. Im just surprised the Kevin allowed her to see the kids in the first place. She had even made the comment once that she never wanted them and that they were Kevin's idea. Unfortunately, her public appearances have been making Kevin look as the "super" parent. Who knows? Maybe he really is?

I avoided the use of the phrase "train wreck" for a while as well. Not anymore. A shame.

I do love her latest album, but that's more a credit to the talent of its' producers than to hers.

Your obsession with Britney is starting to scare me.

Back away from the keyboard, and everything will be ok.

She needs lots of help but first she has to admit she has a problem. Don't think there's much chance of that.

It's a shame, she can't be held accountable for anything I guess. Misbehave and you're off to the hospital? What next? Another rehab?

I keep waiting for her to turn it around. I must be too optimistic.

I about spewed my Coca-Cola Cherry Zero when I read the first line of the article, "A bizarre new chapter is unfolding in the life of Britney Spears...." Which chapter of her life has been anything but bizarre lately?

Who knew the phrase "oops, I did it again," would be so prophetic?

What we have here is a CELEBRITY train wreck, when normal people screw up anywhere like this the authorities grab the kids and slam the door in mom's face. What we are having the joy(?) of seeing is what a ton of money will get you - way too many chances to keep screwing up.

That said, I agree - step outside for some air, there's nothing we can do to help the girl. Let's hope we aren't seeing Hannah Montana doing this in five or ten years...

I feel so sorry for her, but ultimately, maybe what happened last night was for the best. She is at least in the hospital being watched and cared for now. Hopefully she will get the help she needs.

And the court appointment monitor WAS there. I read that she had taken one of the kids to the car and when she came back Britney had locked herself in her room with the other baby. Scary!

My hope is that SOMEONE will help her now. I too feel sorry for Britney & pray that she can get help with her problems whatever they may be.

1. You do not disappoint. I KNEW you'd have a post on this.

2. I know that the court's job is supposed to be to try very, very hard to keep parents and kids together. And I know that I don't know everything that's gone on. But good night. What does one have to do to lose the right to parent?? I feel sorry for Spears....she obviously needs help. But I feel much more sorry for those two little boys. Bless their hearts. [I mean that in the honest-to-goodness way, not in the sarcastic Southern way.]

Courts always, ALWAYS side with mom. Doing otherwise goes against everything we've learned since, well, when we were in the womb ourselves.

Even the worst screw-up of a mom only has to cry in front of a judge and say "I'm sorry, I'm really trying hard," to get another chance.

I've seen some really screwed up moms get their kids back this way. Really. screwed. up. Not just not putting the kid in a car seat or feeding them the wrong food.

Britney is pretty much a hopeless case by now. Sad that it makes news fodder in between lame commentary on the Iowa caucuses.

You probably know this, but she's out now and Dr. Phil went to "visit" her. (WTF?)

Unless something major happens, I think Brittney might well be '08's Anna Nicole.

just a couple questions off the top of my head:
1) what do you think would happen if this situation did not involve Britney Spears but instead a "regular" mom?
2) is Britney under more stress due to her celebrity status or is the law more lenient due to who she is?

just wondering what y'll think...
