Woe is me

I've done something to my upper back.

As a matter of fact, my entire upper back is one big muscle spasm originating from my left shoulder blade.

Seriously, if I press in the right place, you can feel the waves of spasm.

It even radiates to my ribs on my front if I move just right.

It's been going on since Saturday. Heat makes it worse, cold helps a little, and, ibuprofen hasn't been doing anything.

I've also started feeling ill this afternoon as the pain increased.

So, I took 800mg of Motrin this time.

That really wasn't what my stomach wanted, though, so I got a milkshake to put out the abdominal fire.

It took me to the bottom of my milkshake (note to jaxn: vanilla Milkquake from Krystal) to realize that's not what I wanted either.

I can walk and bend OK, I just can't reach for anything and a few moves such as the um, "finish" in the bathroom have proven difficult.

What? Was it something I said?

Normally, I'd just suck it up, but, I have to get over it as I'm taking you guys to the beach with me on Thursday!

Yes, it's that time of year already, my 9th Annual Girl's Beach trip, and, you're all invited to come along, first come first served in my suitcase.

Of course, the only day of the year it's predicted to snow is the day we leave.

And, we all know what happened on the trip back in ought-three.

Well, maybe you don't but, it was ugly and we made the trip in the biggest snowstorm of the century arriving at 3am.

Whatever. Guess you had to be there, it was very dramatic.

But, before I get to vacate, we have to go to a high school parent meeting regarding Busy Girl's schedule next year.

Weird. I will be the parent of a high schooler in a few months.

Busy Girl was 8 when I started this site.

I'm delirious, I didn't get much sleep last night with whatever is going on with my back.

Oh NO! Hope you get to feeling better before the beach trip! Maybe a few margaritas will help...
A quick trip to the chiropractor could do the trick too. A little EMS goes a long way!

I hope you get yourself straightened out before the trip. But meantime, don't even TRY lifting me into the suitcase. I'll just hop in myself, right here next to the comfy beach towel.

Do yourself a huge favor and go to a quick care place and get a pain pill. I pulled my neck out last year and waited a week to go but as soon as I took the muscle relaxer I was 10x better. I kept stretching and rubbing and bending until there was just a burn it hurt so bad. Even if you just take them to sleep at night, you won't be making it worse. Took about 3-4 days and I was totally back to normal.

I'm thinking the pain pills and the chiropractor.

Trip to the chiro and a massage, stat! Some flexeril wouldn't hurt either. That stinks, I'm sorry!

I feel your pain-I've been nursing a neck spasm for the last few weeks. Odds are you slept in a weird position or you are doing something new that is irritating your back-like sitting on the floor reaching up to type on the computer on the coffee table. Or at least that's what I've been doing. Generally speaking I find that stretching it makes it worse and rubbing it is of little help. Here's what my mom's physical therapist suggests: Find the spot somewhere between your shoulder blades and spine that is stabbing-in-your-back point tender. Ask your husband to press his thumb in that spot as hard as you can stand for as long as you can stand 30-60 seconds. Then ice it and go to bed. Take a long hot shower in the morning. If you still have pain tomorrow, lather, rinse and repeat as necessary.

I don't normally go around giving medical advice in comments like this, but I've dealt with this same pain so many times before. Otherwise, get thee to a doctor to make sure you haven't slipped a disc.

Poor baby!

Never mind packing me in your suitcase... how about I'll take your suitcase FOR YOU and you stay home and rest.

Really. It's no trouble at all. I'm just that kind of internet friend...

Hope you heal fast!

I am bummed for you. Want some chocolate?

Do you have a chiropractor? I have an awesome one here. With massage therapists on staff. E-mail me if you need her info.

And I think Busy D was two when I started reading your site.

Tony was just turning five when I started mine, and now he'll be nine on my blog's fourth anniversery. My how time does fly.

I hope your back gets better. I've been there, done that - only with my neck.

Ooh, make room! Make room! I'm coming!

Busy Girl is going to High School??

*sips Geritol*

Wow, time really flies.

*creaks a little*

No heat - ice ice baby! ! Trust me, when Paul hurt his back months ago, the chiro and a friend (who is also a chiro) both said to ice it. If you take any meds, you've got to have eaten something or you will be making a new friend - Mr. Ulcer.

Seriously, feel better soon and get some pain meds asap!

Sorry to hear about your back problems. I have had to nurse back/shoulder problems off and on for a couple years now since my car accident - they certainly can put a damper on things! I hope you get well before your trip.

I want to be in that suitcase to head to the beach ;-)

The beach will make it all better. That and some muscle relaxers.

Get better soon!

I can't belive it is time for annual beach trip already! Just what I need another marker that seems to come around way too fast, just to help me realize how quickly I am growing old.

Looking forward to reading about the trip anyway though. :)

I call dibs on the spot in the travel bag!

thanks for the great information…
