The world. She can be good.

I walked into Panera for lunch.

There was an older gentleman examining the basket where the bread samples usually are.

He was homeless, and I walked by, admittedly kind of lost in my thoughts about getting my food and getting to work using the free wi-fi.

My thoughts were interrupted by a soft and respectful voice:

"Sir, are you hungry? Would it be OK with you if I bought something for you to eat?"

I turned around and saw a young male college student addressing the older gentleman.

The older gentleman agreed, and the younger one got in line with him, helped him select his food and took it to his table and they ate lunch together.

Don't know why I'm telling you that, other than to report that there is good in the world.

The best part is the good turn others will (hopefully) do after witnessing this...paying it forward. I live for moments like this. Thanks for sharing!

You told us this story because from time to time, we all need to reaffirm our faith in the general goodness of people.

I needed oe of those stories lately. Thanks!

Wow. That's someone with a great heart. You're right that it's great to hear about good in the world. Thanks for passing that moment along!

THAT is an awesome story. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for sharing that. I, for one, can use every story that inspires hope that I can find.

Ahhhhhhh...a nice infusion of hope.

Ah, thank you. I needed that.

Awesome story. Thank you so much for sharing it!!!

I'm glad you shared that. I have a funky traffic story from Monday but I won't go there.

I think deep down most people are inherently good. (I shall repeat that mantra the next time someone gives me road rage.)

My husband and I go out to breakfast sometimes and frequently when we do we pick out someone in the restaurant eating alone, usually elderly or unkempt and we secretly pay for their breakfast.. I LOVE doing that!

I have a feeling the young man sitting and eating with the older man meant as much (or more) to him than the food.

My faith in humanity has been restored, at least for the next 30 minutes.

I'm with Prescott--sharing time with him as well as buying him a meal was priceless. Thanks for sharing this story.

That brought tears to my eyes. It is really touching that the young man ate with him and didn't just buy him the food. Don't you wish you knew his parents so you could tell them what a great thing he did?

Makes me want to cry a little...there are still good people in the world :)

I notice the way he spoke to the man with respect and caring. Very touching.

That almost made me cry. Thanks for sharing that.

Seems pointless after all the great comments ahead of me, but I'll say it anyway, you shared it because it was worth sharing.

As much as you were wrapped up in your own world and didn't notice the man initially, there are many more that didn't notice the nice gesture. It is worth recognizing.

Thanks for the inspiration. It's so easy to get so busy that we don't see all the need all around us.

That is a good report. Thank you--needed it today.

Yes, I have tears, too. Really beautiful.

I'm so glad you shared that. Why is it so hard for most of us to reach out? It's so simple, and so great when someone does. That's the love that the world needs more of.

Thanks for sharing this. It gives me hope that there are still good people in this world.

that fills my heart to hear stories like that. it's rare that you see college students caring about much other than themselves. gives me hope that parents are still raising their kids right.
thanks for sharing!

That student has LEADERSHIP written all over him.... lead by example!

With all the bad we hear about daily, thank you for sharing the good. That college boy is a kind, kind man.

Thank you so much for sharing, it gives me faith that the upcoming generation isn't all about themselves. (I'd like to think that I can instill that kind of caring into my students, but who knows).

That boy's mama would be so proud - she "raised him right"!

Wow! Wonderful, wonderful! Thanks for sharing, Busy Mom... I needed some inspiration today

Beautiful *sniff*

Thank you

Aw damn, now I'm crying. The thing that got to me was the "would it be okay with you" part. And the fact that they ate together sent me over the top.
Thanks for such a great story.

Great story! I liked their Panera bagels but there is none in this town!

Wow. Now I'm all teary-eyed at my desk. Thank you.

How wonderful. Thank you so much- this makes my day.

That is totally groovy!

It's good to hear that generosity of self is still out there. It's rare. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for sharing. It is a gentle and calming type of read that I need, especially today.

Another set of tears over here. That young man asked in such a respectful way too. By sharing that incident with us, you extended that "good" feeling that the young man created...now we all have that warm feeling in our hearts.

I offer that more of this kind of thing exists than we realize -- or, more accurately, than the mainstream media chooses to focus on and report. Way to go, BusyMom, for drawing our attention to that which is good. I highly support any forum for recognizing and celebrating this kind of kindness, on all levels. A line in one of my favorite Sara Groves songs is "It's the gratitude I feel for all that's right." I'm guessing that sentiment resonates with most people. It should be shared more.

Thanks! I needed that.

Coming out of delurkville to tell you that your story brought tears to my eyes, and hope for the next generation. I work as a high school counselor, and wonder sometimes about the youth leaving our walls for the real world.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi, sorry for inquiring this enquiry here, but I couldn't find a contact form or something so I thought I leave my request here. I run a blogengine blog but I am getting increased amounts of spam. I see u use wordpress, is it simpler to control spam with wordpress or doesn't it make any difference? I hope you will respond to my comment or maybe send me an email with your answer if you don't want to approve the comment. Best regards, Annie
