Easter and keister rhyme

What did you get?I hope everyone had a lovely Easter.

We stayed here in town for the first time, I think since we had kids as my MIL decided she had enough of us last week and she didn't plan anything for Easter.

My mother always did the egg hunt preparations here, and my MIL did the rest of the day with food and more chocolate and gifts, so imagine my surprise when I awoke Saturday upon my death bed and realized, "Hey, Easter is tomorrow and the odds of my father buying gifts and chocolate bunnies and eggs filled with candy aren't so good."

So, at the risk of showing up that Other Guy, I arose and went forth to the Wal-Marts and boughteth stuff for Easter, and all was well except me.

The kids are on Spring Break this week, and we have our usual plans of a lot of nothing and I have to work.

Poor Busy Girl.

I can remember being her age and aching to go somewhere for Spring Break, anywhere.

While my friends were going skiing or to the beach, if I was lucky we went to Birmingham to visit my grandparents.

It's even worse now, not only are most of her friends going to the beach, others are going on extravaganzas such as Rome! Paris! The Dominican Republic!

Since she wasn't satisfied that we had plans for Publix! she decided to spend most of the time babysitting and going to volleyball practice.

At least she'll have some money and hopefully it will quell the, "I needs..." that are in overdrive as we make the descent into Confirmation and Graduation (mah baybee! Going to high school!) season.

We probably should get off our keisters and plan something for Spring Break next year, but we have taken some wrong financial turn somewhere along the way that prohibits exotic vacations for a family of 5 several times a year.

We plan to retrace our steps as soon as possible as apparently that path wasn't marked clearly.

I grew up in upstate New York, so we usually spent spring break building snow forts in the backyard.

This year we will spend most of the break at home, but we are making a short trip to someplace that bills itself as "Music City" for a day or two. You free for lunch on 4/11?

We're here at home, too. Growing up my father worked for an airline and trips were usually to Memphis to visit family for Easter but there were a few fun ones...Maui, San Diego, etc. My kids are just happy to sleep in and stay up late. Of course the teenager would love to go somewhere cool. Too bad, we have tuition due in a few months that is trumping all spending habits.

When you find that OTHER path that includes those great vacations, let me know and I will follow.

I just stumbled across your blog and wanted to say HI. I'll be back again. Stop by mine anytime.

I have friends going to The Dominican Republic, too! What's up with that?! We're stuck home as usual. And, hey, it may snow again!

Miss C was on spring break last week and mentioned to me more than once that one of her classmates was going to Disneyworld. I'm just hoping that our excursion to Shopry Mills last week will be riveting enough for her to share with the 5 and 6-year-old set. We have GOT to start a Disney fund. I can't imagine what airfare would be like for a family of five (heck we can't afford airfare for four!)

Hey Busy Mom! Thanks for making me chuckle during a trying time. Your the first person I'm inviting next time! :)

I don't fret the "my friends are..." because there will ALWAYS be that. We are a smaller family of 3 and still can't take multiple vacations a year.

Let's see in the past year and change you have had, your mother passing, dad's back surgery, uncle passing away, all of which required time off and expenses, not to mention car... uh... "issues" and appliance, shall we say "surprises."

Riddle me this, how the heck are you staying above water at all?

Oh how I remember those days of being stuck at home for Spring Break while all my friends had great destinations to go without parents. While I was mortified to tell people I spent spring break with my family, I see news reports now of children like Natalie Holloway and quite honestly I completely understand why my parents didn't allow me to be "one of those children" and I appreciate it now in my "old" age

When you find that other financial path could you post it? Our vacations always involve visiting relatives and I have a feeling the thrill will wear off in a few years.

Hah! We live one hour from Disney and haven't been in four years. Forget the airfare, what about the costs once you get there? Even with our Florida discount it's $300.00 just to walk through the gates.
Please let me know when you come across that path, I'd like directions please.

I lived one hour from the beach, so that's where i spent every spring break. I longed to do something exotic, since the beach was filled with rednecks, but I loved those times.
