Busy Girl is currently playing volleyball.
It's sort of a big deal because she is going to try out for the team in high school this fall (Mah, baby! High school!).
She's a good player, but you never know what will happen because she's just not very big, and high school athletes in all sports these days, are, well, bigger than she is.
OK, sixth graders are bigger than she is, but whatever.
I am raising a family of medium to small people.
Just thought you'd like to know
They had a tournament a couple of weeks ago from which my butt is just now recovering.
Bleacher ass. It's a real affliction. Won't you help?
Anyway...
She's got a great serve, but for some reason it left her the second day of the tournament.
I'm mean, packed up, forwarded the mail and caught a plane to Rio.
It got to where the coach would have to take her out of the game every time it was her turn to serve and then put her back in when it was over.
Her serve made a visit home during practice over Spring Break and even brought it's cousin, The Jump Serve back with it.
She was very proud of her new skill and was looking forward to the regular season.
Last night was the first game since Spring Break.
She confidently stepped up to the line, tossed the ball in the air and hit it into the net, more than once.
And then it happened.
She pounded one over the net.
And again.
She ran up 12 points in a row and didn't miss one after that.
And, that's how Stella got her serve back.
Which was the highlight of the game for me since I had to be a line judge and was muzzled from my usual yelling and the gym staff threw away my newly opened Diet Coke when I was working and had my back to it.
Bitter. I was bitter, I tell ya.
What?
At least that was better than me telling you all about my dream where I was riding a shuttle bus with Ashley Olsen.

Way to go, Busy Girl!
But I have to say that if they'd thrown away my Diet Coke while I wasn't looking, no muzzle made would have stopped the yelling!
Go BusyGirl! I think volleyball is my favorite girl sport. And, back in the day I was the steady server on our junior high team, so I have a special place in my heart for her skills. Can't wait to hear how tryouts go in the fall!!
Yeah for the return of BG's serve! Anna has a pretty good serve, but still serves underhand. I guess overhand will come later.
Diet Coke is allowed in the gym? ooooh...LUCKY!
I start back with two games this weekend for the 11 year old... the 13 year olds vball season hasn't started yet... but it will soon...I prefer to keep the book then be a line judge.
At least with volleyball you have to pay attention to the game... you never know when you are going to be whacked in the head with an out of control ball... I always feel like I am part of the action!
I'm glad that BG got her groove/serve back. Our friends' older daughter is a short volleyball player who plays on a high profile club team. She is a great defensive player, plays back row and often plays the labarrow spot. So, there is hope!
When my son was on the high school basketball team here, a friend's son also was on the team. (I live in Iowa) we called the season the "See Iowa By Night Tour". That was 8 years ago and I'm STILL pulling splinters out of my ass. Of course, I played D3 college basketball (well, I was on the team anyway) and it took a good 10 years to pull all the splinters out then.
Congrats to Busy Girl. Hope she makes the team, if that's what she really wants.
Oh, and about the second line of your post. Check out the movie "Valley Girl" (Nicolas Cage's first starring role) where his love interest's dad says "Hey, we were young once....... your mother still is!"
Nobody messes with my diet coke!
I love that your daughter is just a tad bit older than mine. I'm learning a lot through you. Thanks!
