Summer's here, I'm for that

Happy opening day of Towel Consumption Season!

I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend as the U.S. celebrates Memorial Day.

With a teen out of school and free for the summer, my days are mostly spent waiting to see where I can take her next and how much money I can give her.

Thank goodness for work, it's free and I get to stay in one place.

I may have told you before that we enrolled her in a summer class figuring the tuition would be cheaper than her social life and we're guaranteed to not have to drive from place to place to place for at least 10 weekdays.

The class is a half credit and getting it out of the way this summer will give her a study hall this fall when she goes to high school which will be a good thing because her classes are going to be pretty tough.

As my Twitter peeps are painfully aware, we spent Saturday at a basketball tournament across town where our games were oh so conveniently spaced at 10am, 3pm and 7pm and then there was a dance at school that evening, so I was out of the house from 9am-11pm.

I'm pretty sure you really don't care, but I do.

It made me lose an entire day of wandering around the house wondering what to do first.

I do have two other children who mostly fight with words and sometimes with swords since they went to the Renaissance Festival on Saturday.

Since we have no friends to invite us to an All-American cookout with flags and apple pie, we're just hanging around the house today undoing each other's chores.

(Intermission: Publix bakery apple pie rocks! It's not chock full of nutmeg like people always do to perfectly good apple pies. I hets me some nutmeg.)

Since it's officially summer and I'm the only one around here who has a schedule (husband is a teacher), it is taking us me a while to get settled in.

These people I live with are pretty hard on a house since they're here all the time, and it drives me nuts and any cleaning projects that do go on usually result in a bigger mess than before they started.

It usually takes me about 2 weeks to chill out.

The rest of the family is wishing the first 2 weeks of summer would pass quickly.

The rest of the summer will be a jumble of a couple of vacations (after we sell some organs to pay for gas), sports camps, overnight camp for Busy Boy and it will be over in a flash since Busy Girl and Busy Dad will both start school at the beginning of August.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go make some more lemonade since I can't stop drinking it for some reason.

Oh yeah, Public Service Announcement:

We found this out the hard way, but if your kid has a cell phone and they want to download a ring tone (Yes, yes, I know. Your kids will never have cell phones, you always know where they are. Got it, thanks.), make sure you do it with them.

Busy Girl downloaded one ring tone with permission, and she got signed up for not one, but two ringtone "clubs" at $19.99/month each.

She said she very carefully selected the proper answers to decline membership, but she got signed up anyway.

There's been a ton of complaints about these companies and I called ATT Wireless and gave them a piece of my mind (and now I don't have any left. *rimshot*).

You know I read your blog for a glimpse at my future right? How annoying (ringtones). I saw an ad on MTV for one that had some really fast speak at the end how to unsubscribe - but most teens probably would have missed it - took me 4-5 times of seeing the same commercial to decipher it.

I am about to cook a brisket. Want to come over? The house is a disgrace, but I'm sure you'll overlook that.

I have no friends to invite me to BBQs either. (Why do you think I'm reading blogs in the middle of the day?) Headless Dad is working, Headless Girl went to spend the day with her boyfriend, Headless Boys are watching tv. Me? I just went through all of our cd's-dusted them and put them in alphabetical order.

No joke.

I'm so lame.

Happy Summer. Brace yourself . . .

There's so much here to comment on and I want you to know that I do feel your pain - but I can't believe you don't like nutmeg! I thought I was the only one on the planet! It's nice to not be so alone. Anyway - Thanks for the heads up on the ringtones and good luck with summer.

So you're one of those moms who gives your, um, teenage kid a cell phone!!! OMG! I had no idea. Next thing it'll be crockpots. You moms these days. Slackers. Seriously.

Sorry to hear that your summer is starting already. I hear you about the house!

We use phonezoo.com for our ringtones, simple, easy and they are FREE always. You can even make your own if you want!

We didn't have anyone invite us anywhere this past weekend. We just made our own fun! :) If you are in the area for the 4th of July, let me know, we're having a thing here that day from noon-9 p.m.

So this is what I have to look forward to. Except who knows what the trend will be when my kids reach teen status. Enjoy your summer!

My 8 year old is already asking for a cell phone. The answer is still NO at this point. He isn't going anywhere that I won't be. Things to look forward to. Enjoy the summer!

This is pretty damn funny. So right about that "where can I take her and how much can I give her" thing. Mine's 19 and it hasn't stopped.

And wandering around the house wondering what to do next happens to me so much I can't stand to even think about it.

Another vote AGAINST nutmeg.

Happy Summer!

You are cordially invited to the Casa De JayMonster on any weekend you wish for a BBQ, but the trip up to NJ might be a bit much.

Cell Phone Ringtones... NEVER EVER buy a ringtone from a company that you have to text to a number to order the ringtone. Buy it from your providers service (it costs more up front by a small amount, but at least you don't get whacked by the "games" these others play).

Also beware of Ringback numbers... very often there is a monthly charge ($1.99 on Verizon) associated with the "service" of playing the Ringback to those that call you on top of the fee you pay for buying the ringback tone.

I put a block on my phone for downloads. I had the same thing happen to me that happened to busy girl. I even went back and forth making sure I hit all the decline boxes. Well, sure enough I got suckered into something, and I called them. I said immediately remove this from my phone and send me a copy of my acceptance checks. (the blocks that were suppose to be checked). They couldn't provide a copy, so I said I respectfully dispute this and hereby place a block on my phone for any further blah blah blahs... The best part was, they asked if my "parent" would sign a waiver. I said maybe, but not in this time frame, I am 43 and my parent is deceased. The charge is removed appropriately.

I know what you mean about nowhere to go for the 4th. I think we all need to consider our personal connections. Live and in person connections help so much. I am a single mom with 3 kids , 18, 14 and 10. I am trying to let go of my 18 year old, since she is headed off to college. I am pushing for her to get a job, and since I dedicated my off time to her activities, I am now beginning to feel the void. I know I have 2 others I need to get through to college, but it certainly is a wake-up call for me.
