Just thought I'd catch you up on stray Rottweiler central.
There's good news and bad news.
Bad news first, I guess.
We were seriously considering keeping him.
He's a great dog, friendly and very playful, has never been aggressive in any way, just a big, "I'm so happy to be here" kinda guy.
Unfortunately, his enthusiasm killed our elderly cat.
Or, at least we think it did.
Both big dog and Oliver (the cat) roamed the side yard of our house near the kitchen door, our main entrance.
We were going to take big guy to the vet to get him checked out before putting him in the back with the other dogs, so he stayed on the front porch or on the side of the house.
We've been watching him very, very carefully and he never bothered Ollie at all except for checking him out by sniffing, and a few half hearted attempts to get him to play.
Like I said he loves to play and often bounds around the yard for no special reason.
And, that is a lotta dog to be bounding around.
We think he might have nosed Ollie too hard or something.
There was no sign of any trauma, so it's possible that it was simply Ollie's time to go, as he was nearly 17 years old and had been losing some weight.
We're not sure though, so we decided we can't keep the biggun' since Sparky (new puppy) is still so young and small.
The good news is that our neighbors have taken the big dude (I call him Roscoe) on a trial basis to see how he is with their dogs.
Yes, of course we told them about the cat, but they saw him several times with the cat and they know he wasn't aggressive with him.
They really like him and we hope tonight (his trial run) goes well.
Oliver lived a long, happy life, but I'm sad, he was the last of our original group of first pets after we got married.

I'm really sorry to hear about your cat.
I'm really sorry to hear about your cat.
So sorry about Oliver, and glad you may have found a home for the dog. I'm guessing it was just Ollie's time, but the stress of a new dog may have hastened things a bit without the dog doing anything he shouldn't have.
I'm a real Rottweiler fan. If they are raised in a good environment, they make the most wonderful pets. I'm just surprised that someone didn't try to track him down.
I hope he does well.

Sorry to hear about Oliver. :-(
Oh, man, I'm so sorry to hear about Oliver. Though I am glad that Roscoe has a home.
I'm so sorry about your cat!
Aww, I'm so sorry to hear about Oliver.
So sorry to hear about Oliver. Hope the dog finds a good home.
My condolences to your family on the loss of Oliver.
So sorry to hear of Oliver's passing.
What wonderful neighbors to try and keep Mr. Roscoe.
So so sorry to hear about your cat. Mine is old now and it's been difficult to see him get worse.

I am sorry about your loos of Oliver. Maybe it was his time. I know it was hard to see him get old.
On a good note, sounds like the big guy is a good boyu and I am sure someone will love him. I know if I had a fence, my husband would love a dog like that.It is good he came to your yard, and not to someone that would mistreat him or turn him away.

If Oliver was losing weight, then I am sure it was his time to go... My Barney started losing weight and was gone within a month... the vet said that was pretty normal in a cat that could make it to 18...
Poor Oliver - what a bittersweet week it's been for you - I'm glad that you were able to find the Rottie a new home.
I hope my dog drama turns out.
Sorry about the loss of your cat. I know it was hard.
Oh, poor Oliver. 17 is pretty darn old for a cat, though. I'm sure he had a wonderful life with you.
Sorry about Ollie. I'm guessing though at his age, there would have been some telltale signs of defensive wounds on Roscoe if he did inadvertently get a bit too rough. Not that it makes it any better.
Aw dang. Sorry about the cat!
At least he didn't EAT the cat...
I'm really sorry to hear about your cat. Our dog, Princess was also losing weight. My guess it was just old age that doomed Oliver.
Princess was really MY first pet. We all miss her, and I know you are griving for Oliver.
We'll grieve together, OK?
