I stopped by my dad's house the other day when he wasn't home and I noticed a pad of paper with a list that had times and entries such as "5:30 get up" and "6:15 go to work".
I immediately thought, "Oh, Lord here's the first clue his mind is failing, what do I do now?"
If you're new here, I'm an only child and my dad is 76 and has lived alone since my mother died a couple of years ago.
He's a teacher and works full time, there's nothing wrong with him that I know of, but since he's a man of few words I do get a surprise every now and then.
Like the time he couldn't walk and didn't tell me.
For 3 days.
Anyway, as I went through all the scenarios in my brain regarding this list, it finally dawned on me that he just got a new programmable thermostat and was working on the schedule for it.
Alzheimer's averted.
His, not necessarily mine.

Oh my! I would have jumped to the same incorrect conclusion. Fortunately you remembered the thermostat before you embarrassed yourself.
I am starting to be the if it's not on my list it doesn't get done type...and sadly I could see that sort of list for myself going on one of these days :)
Too cute....I want one of those programmable things too..
Phew! Although, it would be hard to follow a list that told you when to wake up since you'd have to wake up just to look at it. Y'know?
Stesses and concerns like that would drive me to Alzheimer's, that's for sure.
This is awesome and I laughed and laughed. I want a programmable thermostat myself. However, I am unwilling to replace my 30yo HVAC to get it.
Very funny, very cute story.
Though, one could think that, that is what you get when you go snooping in your dad's home when he's not there! ;)
Take care,

my dad is 81. I live 3000 miles away. Some nights I will call and if he doesn't answer and then I call again and still no answer and then again and then no answer, I start to freak out that God forbid something has happened to him.
Wow, mad props to him if he's still spry enough to teach at that age but I see what you're getting at. I get daily emails from my Mom, but I'm still glad that I've got a network of fam members closer than I who look in on her.
