Happy Halloween-io!

Happy Halloween!

OK, I have to confess, I don't really like Halloween all that much.

Sure, in my day it was the biggest social occasion of the year. There were more hook-ups than a Velcro closure and it was a great excuse to wear whatever you wanted.

Robert Palmer girl, anyone?

Now, I find it rather a pain.

I'm glad the kids like it and all, it's just that it's such a...I don't know...

My kids start talking about costumes in September. And talking...and talking...

The other adult in the house buys them said costumes in September and by the time Halloween actually rolls around, they've lost the parts or they don't want to be that anymore.

Then there's the whole thing of what they can and can't wear to school, so more often than not it involves at least one of them having 2 costumes.

Halloween is usually on a weeknight and things begin absurdly early so I'm dashing away from work to get to school or to home.

We don't live in a neighborhood that's good for trick-or-treating, so we have to get ourselves invited somewhere and pack up and go and it's all so rushed.

We also have to plan to take them by my dad's house, so when we get back from trick-or-treating, we have to rush off there.

Actually, I'm suspicious he doesn't care either way if we come, that was my mother's thing. In fact, he's not even going to be home tonight, so there ya go.

I have a (young) teenager now and we are facing the whole issue of going out in the neighborhood with friends as well as the boyfriend.

Entire other post, mind you.

You guys with teens? I'm kinda mad you didn't warn me about all of this.

Then, you have the whole who's spending the night with whom and where to iron out.

No, that's not related to the boyfriend issue, smartypants.

Don't even start me on the photograph opportunities and poor lighting issues.

And, finally...

Kids today? Trick-or-treat wimps!

I know I've bitched about it before, but , in my day, you went for blocks and blocks and blocks, sometimes coming home to dump out candy and start again!

Now, I can hardly get my kids to even say, "Trick or treat!" when they go to a house and they're ready to call it a day after a street or two.

They're going out tonight and they are not to come home until they have a bag of 1st tier candy filled to a predetermined (by me) amount.

And they're gonna have fun, dammit.

********************

Just FYI, today is my last day at both Career and Kids and GenBetween.

Also? Be sure to check out the Parentography podcasts Jay and I have started.

They're about parents and photography if you didn't get the whole "Parentography" thing.

OK, he knows about photography and I mostly just agree with him, but go check it out, anyway.

We have a HUGE festival in town that starts tonight of all nights - a 10 day salute to SAUSAGE (oh the joys of a German-based town)...so we've had to come to terms with no trick or treating or no Wurstfest tonight. Trick or Treating won...I wonder if anyone will be handing out beer in honor of the festival????

Back when our kids were still trick or treating, we relied on the first wave of candy they brought back to supplement what we had bought to give out, in case we ran out. We'll just have to wing it tonight and hope that we have enough. And hope that we don't have so much left over that the holiday weight gain season begins this week!

My 15 year old sister is deserting my mother and going to a party tonight... so, we will be hitting up Grandma's house for the extra candy that Auntie won't be eating! And we plan on watching "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" with her.

We don't live in a high-traffic neighborhood (no sidewalks, no streetlamps), so once we visit the neighbors who know we are coming, we're off to Grandma's. The less candy the kids take in, the better for my waistline.

And the evil mommy threw them in the dungeon and made them eat candy! That's so funny! I remember hitting some of the same houses twice when I was a kid. But, nobody gave out full size candy bars, either. So nowadays, you go around the block and the bag's full.

I hate Halloween. Have since I was a kid.

I fake it for the kids and can't wait for them to be old enough to stop this nonsense.

I know. Mom of the year.

It's over now and your house is still intact.

Hi,

This is not spam, we are a team of eight students from BU's School of Management who are in a product development class. The product that we are creating is a doll that teaches sun safety to young girls by having its skin on the arms and legs turn red when exposed to UV light (sunlight). We need assistance in getting feedback from mothers about our product.

If you are a mother with a daughter who is 15 years of age or younger, it would be extremely helpful to us if you could take our survey. It takes less than five minutes.

The link to our survey is: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=Mw5v6V3Hvfh3s7AzrJ5n0g_3d_3d

Thank you very much. We appreciate your help.

I do remember trick or treating until we dropped. My dad would take us out first, just up and down our block. Then my mom would pass off the bowl of candy and we would really hit the bricks. But, things are kind of weird now -- in my neighborhood, Halloween starts at 6:00 and ends promptly at 7:00. How far can you get in an hour? We had at least two hours when I was a kid.

This year my kid was old enough to beg for candy but not old enough to determine if mommy stole any after we returned home. WOOHOO! Score!

Palmer girl? Really?

I think we need visual evidence. No, video evidence. Lip syncing is OK.

Happy week after halloween, I'm running behind.
