My dad is in the House

So, I got a second mushroom dropped on me this morning.

I went to pick up my dad to take him to work, and I walked in the house and he was waiting for me and he didn't look so good.

His knee (hemorrhagic arthritis) had gotten worse and he wanted to go to the hospital instead of work. I knew I should have made him go to the doctor last night.

Now, if you know him, that NEVER happens. He's the guy who scheduled his gallbladder surgery over Thanksgiving so he wouldn't have to miss work.

So, off we went to the ER where they drained what they could.

It obviously made him feel a bit better. To wit:

The ER doc was getting ready to drain his knee.

Nurse: "Are you sure you know how to do this?"

Doc: "Yeah, I saw it on ER once."

My dad: "Well, that's OK, as long as you didn't see it on House."

("House" joke. Never seen it? You should.)

They got 50cc of blood off his knee and there's twice as much as that left for the ortho doc where we visit at 8am tomorrow.

aww your poor Dad. I was catching up on Twitter - boy he's been through the ringer. Hope all is better soon!

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. :( Best wishes for a speedy recovery for your dad!

With a quip like that, at least we know your dad isn't suffering from dementia.

My medical family has a love-hate relationship with House. Hubby loves it, because he frequently figures it out before House does (at least when it's not so bizzare that no one could figure it out--needles in the brain, gheezsh) and it's always fun to read the backwards x-rays they put up that are totally unrelated to the disease of the week.

I used to enjoy the clinic scenes, where House would tell off some attention seeking hypochondriac. But I do find it an irresponsible portrayal of the medical profession--I mean, for gods' sakes, he's an addict, he hasn't lost his license, the administration of the hospital indulges this enormous liability risk, and he nearly kills his patients three times each week before he actually figures it out, in all his brilliance.

Love Hugh Laurie. No longer a big House fan.

Ha ha ha... unless it was the craziest life or death circumstance, I would NOT want House working on me.

I hated to read this about your poor dad...hang in there! Hope he is back to his normal active self soon.

p.s. Love the House joke. Glad he still has his sense of humor.

Aw, so sorry about your dad! Yikes!

I did that t-mobile test - I'm a humorous mom or something like that (but I already knew that).
