Purchase paralysis

I'm neither a tightwad nor a spendthrift, but I like to shop.

For the most part, if I really need something and the price is within reason, I get it without a huge amount of thought.

But, there are a few things that I just get paralyzed at the idea of buying, and I have no idea why.

First, as the poor people on Twitter will attest, I cannot make up my mind about a cell phone.

My beloved Samsung Blackjack II is on it's last legs, and I am just at a loss about what to do from here.

I know buying a phone involves more money than, say bath towels or something, and that you have contracts to deal with, but it's more than that.

I am really hung up (heh, phone pun) on getting just the right phone for me. If I'm not sure it's going to be a relationship made in heaven since we have to see each other night and day, I can't seem to go through with the purchase.

Another thing that I can't seem to commit to is a purse.

That's probably because of the carnage of several failed purse relationships in my closet and I don't want to be burned again.

I need a new purse. I want a new purse.

Yet? I can't seem to buy a new purse.

Again, it's got to be just right, the perfect blend of form and function.

If the clouds don't part and the angels don't sing when I look at it, I walk away from the purchase, when in reality, I just need to stop looking for a hallucination and buy a purse already.

Lastly, I cannot seem to buy a bedspread.

I've had the same comforter since not long after I graduated college (the mattress too, but that's another story), and let me tell you, that comforter is kind of old.

I have no psychoanalysis to explain this one.

I think it's just because I can't imagine my bed without it since it's been around so long. Every now and then I get wild hair and go out and look for a new one, but then I get all hung up on trying to decide it I want a comforter, a quilt or a regular bedspread and I get short of breath and leave.

I realize none of these things involve taking a vow, and if I get something and don't like it, I can always try it again.

However? There's just something about these things that turns me all Goldilocksian, and it's got to be "just right".

Yes, weirdo.

A weirdo with a broken phone, a worn purse and a ratty-ass bedspread.

Hi,

I have a blackjack 2 and just recently started using my amazon money (from online work) to buy purses and I have found some dandy's.
However, I have had the same 3 comforters on my wish list on amazon for over a year. I go look sometimes and they will be out of stock, other times, they have it but...oh such a commitment, considering that our winter one we have had for 6 years and we've never bought a summer one, we just keep waiting on me to find the perfect one.

Oh well, we all have our quirks,

I hear ya on the purse thing, but BusyMom, c'mon! GET A NEW BEDSPREAD. The choosing is difficult, but sooo worth it! TJ Maxx for reasonable purses and comforters. Can't help you on the phone thing. Mine is junky, but still functioning, so I'm doomed.

I'm there with you on all 3 items. I held on to the ratty "almost perfect purse" for ages while I waited for its replacement to show up. And behold, in a consignment store one day, a Coach purse in the perfect size and shape, with the $120 tag still in the inner pocket. For $20. Sometimes, persistence works.... Good luck!

Okay, I seem to remember you lamenting over the "sentimental" value of not purchasing a new bedspread, years ago. It's time. Especially, since you can buy all 3 of those things in 1 store now...did you know? Heh. Poor little Goldilocksian.

I am with you on the phone and purse. I keep buying purses but they are either too big or not big enough. I have a ratty ass one from Claires of all places (I am over 40 and should NOT buy from Claires) but it is serving it's purpose and I cannot image spending $200+ for 1 purse I can't bring myself to do it. My phone is old school because I can't find the "right" phone! Arrgh.
My aunt quilted me a bedspread and so that solved that issue but we had a hard time find a comforter we liked. But you are WAY past due for one!!

When you figure it out, let me know. We're changing all our phones over in September, which means I have four months to study, research and stress out.

Go to TJ Maxx. You can knock out the comforter purchase AND purse! I rarely shop any more since my kids suck the lifeblood out of any spending money I once had so I understand about the purchases. I couldn't even decide on hanging baskets for our patio. My husband and 6-year-old picked some out at Home Depot.

I have an iPhone (from Wally World.) LOVE it although my husband is a Blackberry kind of guy. We're crazy like that.

Let's see, I'm using the same comforter that we got as a wedding present 22 years ago. I don't carry a purse, just cash and cards in the back pocket of my jeans, guy-style. But maybe I can help with the phone. I have an iPhone and I love it. You do have to sync it to the Mac occasionally to get software updates but my kids do that for me. I do not embrace new technology easily but have bonded with my iPhone.

I'm the same way about some purchases. I have also had bad purse relationships and now almost always just carry a wallet because I can't find *the* purse ::sigh:: It took me almost 9 years to find dishes I liked, and about 6 to find a bedspread....
The phone I can help you with :) Blackberry Curve in red. Yum.

I have the "I have to have a new purse and comforter/quilt every year" gene, and let me tell you, it is expensive! Go to TJ Maxx and get everything you need, except the phone. You can come shop for a gently used phone at my house, because The Baby has the "I have to have a new phone every 6 months" gene.
