Vacation?

We're preparing to go on vacation and, as many of us have found out, the great secret of adulthood is that vacations don't happen by themselves.

At the risk of being a middle-aged cliche (no, really...shut up), sometimes vacation can be anything but when you are the parent or the otherwise designated adult.

And, my status as the Sandwich Generation Poster Child has earned me the right to factor my dad into the planning as well.

Now, please hear me that I'm not complaining about that. I have lost a parent, I get it that many of you would give anything to have your dad go on vacation with you.

I am glad he goes with us, however, the fact is that I have to consider some things for him, too and it does add to my to-do list as well as my stress as I am somewhat of a champion worrier.

I also get that I'm fortunate to go on a vacation. Really, I do. But, being fortunate doesn't negate the fact that, gah, I have a lot to do before then.

But, I'm famous for getting all worked up before we go out of town, and everything goes just fine whether I worry or not.

Well, except for the blown tire somewhere outside Montgomery last summer.

If I had just worried a little more, that totally would not have happened.

Freaking out before vacations or parties is a page from every mother's playbook. I do it every vacation, my kids count on it. Freak out baby.

So my burning question is: do you find it necessary for the entire house to be sparkly clean before you can leave on a vacation? Because that is they way I am - and it drives everyone in my house NUTS!

Have a great trip!

Of course, I am able to calmly attest to the fact that freaking out is what we moms do best, since we don't leave for another 10 days...working on it, though. Have fun!

I know, my husband alway wants me to just slip away and meet him when he's away for work. Sounds like a great plan except that...my parents need to come stay with us, I need to clean the whole house, make a list of activities my kids are doing for my parent, make sure there's food in the house for kids, parents, etc. Sounds really relaxing!

I have a 10 month old and I couldn't imagine going on vacation with her! She's pretty into her schedule and I think that we would have to actually break down her crib to take with us. Right now, it's just so much easier to be at home with her. There is no way that I would be able to relax and enjoy a vacation right now!

PLease take a vacation from worrying at least one day of the vacation. Find the latest book from your favorite author and spend the time under a shade tree or under a big umbrella at the beach.

Vacation are needed to decompress and relax. That was easy to say, I should read and follow my own comments.

Have a Great Vacation.

I hope you have a fantastic vacation. My family and I need one right about now as well. We have been having to deal with a major health issue which we still havent resolved and work has been really stressfull. I dont know how I would be getting by without my wife and daughter.

Great story, I loved reading it. Your vacation I just hope went well and all went as planned.

You sounded like me, too! I also freaks out every time I go on a vacation. I always get worried about the house and everything that will be left behind. Sometimes, I can't totally enjoy my vacation because my thoughts are flying away, thinking of my missed hours of work and our home.

My mum and i made a good trip to Northindia last christmas, almost everything was in fact extremely lovely at that place. My brother and i traveled a lot around and so visited the best very few Wildparks. Most of us came across a number of baby tigers, elephants and as well as quite a number different lovely pets at that point. Finally , the the wilderness here in Northindia is without question wonderful but also totally completely different. Around certain areas it is always truly green along with so many greenery, around some other spots there are generally dessert sections. On the mountains you would obtain a number of really rare and wonderful flowers and trees. We of course enjoyed a couple of wonderful weeks in Goa on a seaside, the ocean was really clean and all of the people young and old enormously lovely.

Good info.
