Driving Miss Busy Mom

It feels like every time I write something lately, it's along the lines of, "It's not like me to go this long between posts!"

It's really not, but I guess I'd have a hard time convincing anyone of that lately.

So, blah, blah, blah...I haven't written, and any reasons I spew forth would be painfully uninteresting, but would however, include the words "volleyball" and "football".

As your kids get older, it really is harder to write about them, mainly because you're NEVER HOME to do any actual writing, and when you are home, you use that whole time to discuss where you have to take them next with a little background music that goes something like, "Hey, mom. Hey, mom. Hey, mom. Hey, mom. Hey, mom. Hey, mom."

I don't feel especially sorry for me because even when I have some time to write, I usually end up frittering it away on Twitter.

That would be Twitter Frittering. Don't try that at home.

I also admit to being a bit disillusioned by the current state of blogging in my community. Just the usual, you can read about it most anywhere.

I also have very little patience for shrill flareups in an otherwise light-hearted community. But, that's probably just the ACOA in me.

So, yeah, yeah, yeah...excuses.

Let's see, what can I write about?

Driving!

Busy Girl turned 15 and is now the proud owner of a Learner's Permit.

She's so excited. I know firsthand that being a September baby is hard when you're the last one to do anything.

She is too young to take solace in the fact that when they turn 40, she'll still be 39.

I used that one for years and it really only ever got to one person, but it was totally worth it. (Still is, heh since I'm still 44...I know you're out there.).

She's doing quite well, she drives most places, but we haven't ventured to the Interstate, yet.

I've passed the point where I feel like we may die, but there's still a lot for her to learn. I never realized how wearing it can be to have to treat every minor trip out of the house as a teaching opportunity, but we keep doing it.

About the time we get the routine down, we'll have to start over again with Busy Boy.

Poor Busy D., he may end up figuring out how to drive on his own. Heck, he could be taking the car out at night right now as far as I know.

When you see those news stories about the 7 year old kid leading cops on a chase around the city, I admit to looking out the window to make sure all our cars are there.

I know the feeling - we have a 15 yr old who is now the proud owner of a permit. I needed a shot of something after that quick trip to the store for brown sugar on Saturday. This is going to be a LONG 50 hours.

Mmmm...twitter fritters...

So glad I have a 13 year respite between learners. (My kids are 26, 23, almost 10, and adorable 8.) Of course, I'll be so old by the time Girly-Girl and Silly-Head start driving that my false teeth may hit the windshield whenever they brake...

I have to admit this post had me laughing, snickering and giggling like a 12 year old. You see... Busy D is the baby and well... my siblings are like Busy Girl and Boy in age, then I came along...

I drove for 2 years without my license because my Mom, who was normally very with it, figured with the 3rd, she seen all the tricks... I told her I got my license at school and the picture was horrible... It worked until the bad cop father told on me.. I also took the family ride for a spin most days, but in my defense, she had to know, where else did she think the gallons of milk she asked for came from..

Much luck to you!!

am i the only one who thinks 15 is too young to drive? what happened to 16? yikes.

Wow - twitter. I can't even text from my phone.

I am so not looking forward to five years down the road when Travis will be learner's permit age. I'm hoping they change the laws and make it 25 before you can drive before then.

I remember during the permit years when I would insist on me driving when I was tired. I can drive on autopilot. I can't be the anxious passenger when I'm exhausted. The kids never understood how I could be too tired to let them drive.

Best of luck to both you and your daughter for your driving endeavor (it's good to hear that you are no longer fearing for your life every time you enter the car with her). Sounds like your son is quite the handful, but hopefully he will not be one of those infamous children--checking your cars can't hurt, I suppose.

I truly get the Twitter Frittering. Heh.

I'll be on the lookout for Busy D. on the road! ;)

Twitter frittering, it's what's for dinner!

I am SO jealous as I have just lost my teenage driver and I am driving uoptown twice a day again. grrrrrr. come on Dec 15, 2011 !!!

I know women who are terrified to let their kids drive.

ME? Here are the keys. Take your brother to soccer.

Except for those insurance payments, it's great to have a teen driver. The older brother is the younger brother's chauffeur.

I just turned 40 yesterday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was the LAST of all of my friends to do so and some of them have turned 41 and 42 already. It was so nice - as I, too, had issues with the fact that I was the youngest in my class. Not anymore! IN YOUR FACE, SUCKAS!!!!!!!!!!

OMG, drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life, you have a driver. Karma is funny thing my friend, I am right there with you, thinking of you. *Sigh*

I hear you about not posting much. I wonder sometime if anyone even reads blogs as much as they once did, now that there is twitter and FB. Sometimes I feel like posting is like talking to the wall:)

Oh, I remember getting my permit at 15 and then having to learn to drive a 5 speed up a hill. Good times.

I remember working at a school where a six-year-old made off with a car that had been left running...I wonder what he grew up to be? ;)

Hi there! Some of us are still all innocent and pure in the blogging world (read: naive and stupid? read: boring and sanitized?).

I know of what you speak, generally anyway. Just took some folks out of my Reader today in a spirit of "what do I really want surrounding me each time I'm here?"

My oldest is 15...and there are three more boys after him. He can't get a learner's permit...I've seen him drive a go-kart and it's hell on wheels. It's funny - the older they get the more I have to write about them. Mostly through threat of exposure - keep it up, and everyone will hear about how you were a nipple twister way back when. That sort of thing. Fun.

Yikes! I don't even want to think about my kids ever learning to drive. Ever!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Busy Mom!! Have a great day!

I completely agree with you :)women are terrified to let their kids drive.

Again, my heart goes out to you, lol. Being driven around by a 15 year old may seem a bit daunting, but at least you don't have the cuts, scrapes or bruises to prove you survived (or do you?).

Lol. I loved the part where you said Busy D. will have to learn on his own. I'm sure it won't come to that, but it was all the more hilarious when you said it.
