With the holidays right around the corner, this is bound come up in many families across the world.
I'm not sure what to do.
Busy D.and Busy Boy have no clue, but since Busy Boy is 13, I need to be on the lookout for him hearing about it at school.
I can't tell with Busy Girl. I know she wants to believe, but there's some doubt, I can tell.
I'm pretty sure that even at 49, my oldest still believes.
I'm just not sure how long this can go on.
On one hand, the kids might be ready to hear it.
But, on the other hand they'll have to do this with their own families someday, so should I just let them continue to believe?
Maybe I should just come out and tell them?
I don't know, what kind of angst will follow?
OK, I'm just going to do it.
Family?
There is no dishwasher loading fairy.
It's me. That's how the dishes get in there.
It's been me the whole time.
When you wake up to a clean sink when just the night before it was full?
All me.
When the glasses get back in the cabinet?
Yep, that was me the whole time then, too.
I know, it's hard. I'll give you a moment.

Are you sure you wanna take this step? Next thing they'll be asking if the new sheets fairy is real? And what about the clean toilet fairy? And the tidy up the family room fairy? I'm just picturing a domino effect here. That's all.
Ha ha ha ... thanks, I needed that. :)
*snort* I still remember when I first found out...it made me very sad.
There is TOO a clean dishes fairy! And a house-cleaning fairy! And a clean sheet fairy! I know there is! I know there is!
*my mom always told me that the minute you stopped believing was the minute that whatever it was stopped existing*
Love this!
This made me smile on a day that there has been very little to smile about. Thanks.
A friend of mine held a small "keeper of the magic" ceremony for her daughter. This may sound hoaky, but I think it is really cool. It amounted to her and her hubby entrusting her with this very special knowledge and then asking her to help keep the magic for the younger set. I think it is beautiful because you are asking them to not ruin it for others just because they know. Also, it gives them some responsibility to carry out some of the special tasks that need to be done to keep that magic alive. I had never heard of this before and thought it was a really lovely way to cross that bridge....
Having raised my boys without any resource to mythical creatures of any variety, I can assure that telling them that the dishwasher fairy does not exist will NOT get them to help load said dishwasher.
Sorry.
They say, that until they're "ready" you can't convince them otherwise! You may have a couple of months left for the 42 year old...
My daughter recently lost her tooth. She put it under the pillow. The Tooth Fairy forgot to retrieve it, so it got lost. The Fairy wrote her a note. A really nice, really sweet note. My daughter took one look and said, "Mommy, I think *you* wrote this." Sigh. I asked her why she thought that, crossing my fingers that she would drop it. She did. Thank goodness.
I know she knows there's no dishwasher fairy, though. She's been helping me load the dishwasher for about six months. Poor thing. I am such a mean mommy.
AHAHAHHAHA...I know I haven't been here in awhile, but that just made my day :) Thanks.
LOL!! I made my eleven year old empty the dishwasher last night and he was sputtering on the way to the dishwasher saying "I just loaded this thing up and now I have to empty it"! I informed him, oh so nicely, that I had loaded and emptied that same dishwasher at least four times since he had last loaded it.
I don't think he believed me...
lmao - maybe i need to break the news to my brood too. i've been perpetuating the myth for too long!
Its hard to break the bubble though. It's either you break their hearts for believing in something that isn't real or you make them jump in glee thinking their Mom is super/otherworldly, lol.
I guess you should just let learn the truth by themselves.
HEE. You had me going...I thought, seriously? Now I don't feel so bad about my kids not knowing...or at least don't admit to knowing. Alas, we were talking about different kinds of knowing...
I'm struggling with this myself. I only have one, she's 10 this year. I honestly never wanted to let her truly believe in any of the typical childhood lies, but I was sorely outvoted by everyone in existence. DH works for tips in Destin, so we struggle financially in the winter, and I seriously am bothered by the fact that I feel obligated to live up to a myth. I think the holiday should focus more on family, and to be perfectly honest, I think that is one of the reasons I enjoy the month leading up to Christmas day way more than I ever have Christmas itself.
Additionally (sorry, kid getting ready for school bugging me and I hit post before I was done) I know you weren't talking about Christmas, but it just triggered my need to spill about that, no one here understands!
Now, it would just be my opinion, but I would think Busy D is the only one at your house who still truly "believes!" Sorry!!! I could be wrong, but I don't think so...
This is a fabulous post. I linked to it.
Oh yes...I did.
*giggle*
