Crowd-sourcing my vacation

OK, thanks to the folks at BP and their associates, we have to rearrange our vacation.

I'm having a terrible time finding somewhere to go, so I thought I'd crowd-source it.

Criteria (other than not wildly expensive)

1. Within 8-9 ish hours from Nashville
2. Condo or house for lodging - minimum 3 BR, 2.5 bath
3. Pool
4. Near something interesting, but not right in the middle of a city, not too remote
5. No primarily golf resorts or fishing camps.

I'm open to a lake resort, but we don't have a boat, so it would have to have a swimming beach.

Have to move fast here, as we can only go the last week in June.

Help?

Charleston, SC?
Hilton Head Island, SC?
Savannah, GA?
Asheville, NC?

I got nuthin' -- however, if you're every in the Jersey area -- good luck, my friend.

We had our plans changed too, although due to much different causes. Our summer vacation will be spent in the neurotrauma ICU and, Lord willing, rehab. But we could probably could have fit your little family in with ours at the beach houses in North Myrtle Beach, we'd never notice 5 more people. You could have even caravaned with the cousins coming from Nashville. Did I tell you cousin Amy works in the same facility as you? She's in one of the ORs I believe ...

Anyway ... Amelia Island, which shows up in your Google ads, is nice, though not much excitement other than the beach. We went there a couple years ago, and it was quite lovely. Folly Beach, just south of Charleston is pretty nice too.

Gatlinburg would be cool too ... we could maybe meet up since that is right in our backyard ... and there is plenty to do, from hiking in the mountains to Dollywood to the gawdy touristy stuff in Pigeon Forge.

There are a million places along Lake Michigan that would be perfect, but that might be a 10-12 hour drive.

Asheville
Atlanta
Charleston
Savannah
Gatlinburg
Cincinnati
Hocking Hills {southern Ohio}
Hilton Head

I was going to say Pigeon Forge, too. It's pretty up there.

My fave though is the SC beaches...IOP, being my absolute fave. I bet you can find a condo or house there. Check HomeAway(dotcom) for places to stay.

Or, if you're so inclined, drive all the way out here. You can stay for free, the beach is 30-45 min. away, and there is a bunch of other stuff to do as well. The only bitch is the 3 day drive to get there. Hmph.

there is a charming lake resort in poland, indiana, which is an hour and a half southeast of indy. each cabin comes with a rowboat (for free) and they also have a couple of canoes that guests share. rates are very reasonable. they have a grass beach for swimming and a dock you can swim out to and use. they also have a tennis court and other amenities. it reminds me a little of the place in dirty dancing. http://www.wasatchlake.com/

i live in louisville and can't wait to take my family there!

I'd suggest Branson, but I think that's more than an 8-9 hour drive from Nashville. Lots to do there, pretty country. Maybe for the next one! :)

Lake Lure NC is great - http://www.lake-lure.com/

We are at Garden City Beach, SC this week and it has been lovely.

We love the Jacksonville/Amelia Island/St. Augustine area on the Atlantic coast but it is a haul of a drive, more like 11 hours. :( Last summer we flew.

Never been to coastal Carolina but I hear it's beautiful. I like to scope out VRBO.com

We are crossing our fingers about going to Navarre Beach, Florida July 4th week.

Virginia Beach?

top 10 summer songs: 1. Owl City - Fireflies; 2. Bob Dylan - Knockin' On Heaven's Door; 3. Black Eyed Peas - Boom Boom Pow; 4. Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Under the Bridge; 5. Lady Gaga - Bad Romance; 6. Madonna - Hollywood; 7. James Brown -- I Got You (I Feel Good); 8. Eagles - Hotel California; 9. Rhianna - Umbrella; 10. Credence Clearwater Revival -- Fortunate Son

Another vote for St. Augustine. The beaches are gorgeous. Condo rates are reasonable. Lots to do. Reasonable driving to more stuff to do (Jacksonville or Orlando) should you get bored. We've been several times, as you know, and I would (and will) definitely go back again and again. Oh, and there is an outlet mall not too far away.

St.Simons Island GA

I vote for Myrtle, Virginia, St Simon. Mainly because they are people's names and they went together good. Also Folly Beach in SC is cute and near Charleston. And I say that because I have been there. Its mostly residential (not a souvenir shop every 5 feet) but close enough to the city. Never been to Hilton Head. And there you have it.

And my family (sans me of course) is going to Panama City this week for church camp. I'll have them bring you back a clump of coagulated oil. Ew.

Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina is awesome. Very beautiful.
