What do cicadas sound like? What do cicadas sound like?
This is life with cicadas:
Update: Y'all do realize I'm not talking about the random summer bug sounds, right? These things show up every 13 years, and it's insane in some places.
You can hear them over the lawn mower at our house, they're like 120 decibels or something.

How do you handle hearing that all day? I do not miss that noise.
You can hear it in the car and over the lawnmower. You just kind of go with it, no other choice. Some places are worse than others, though.
Wow over the lawnmower, that's crazy. I guess after a while it kind of becomes background noise huh? I am very sensitive to certain noises. I can't stand crickets just because the noise they make. It's like nails on a chalkboard for me.
That is the 'old home' sound for me. Really miss is, as it's been years since I've been there. Actually, I'm really homesick for the south this weekend. My mother's side of the family is (almost) all down in NO for a wedding and yet, here I am, sitting at home. *sigh*
Okay, so your cicadas can probably kick Jersey cicada butts, or, at the very least, drown 'em out...wow!
It is an "old home" sound for me, too. The wildest, loudest experience I ever had was from the Spring Peepers (frogs) in the creek behind the house when we lived in Western Washington. And, of course, it was at night, so it was tough to sleep!
I have lived with this all my life, and yet? I clicked to see if YOURS sound any different than OURS.
Thank you, innerwebs.
I grew up with that sound. Used to drive my nuts when they would get super loud like that. They also scared me to death b/c my mother falsely told me that they stung.
I agree with Headless Mom. Circadas are a pleasant sound to those who grew up with them. It's really a state of mind whether to hear them as a pleasure or as a nuisance. Similar to hearing the Coqui frog in Puerto Rico.

OMG they were so loud in Germantown yesterday! Not so loud in my part of town but still it is annoying! They say we have at least 3 more weeks of this little slice of heaven.
Oh, no kidding! We've been having the 13-year bugs here in GA, too. So loud you can hear them in the house. At first, i kept walking around saying, "Who left the water running?"
Those cicadas can get sooo loud. Glad they don't come around every summer.
